In computing power r9 290 has 5120GFLOPS vs the gtx 970 3707GFLOPS, and they both have the same vram, however gtx970 performs much better in games why? Posted July 7, 2015 Honestly it is is a very bad idea to compare specs directly since the architectural differences are MUCH more important. Within the same line of GPUs they can be a good indication, but really the ONLY way to be sure is to look up benchmarks for the cards. Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses. Posted July 7, 2015 The 970 doesn't perform "much better". It performs "slightly better" and even "the same" in some cases. I'd say at least 6gb

Floating points per second isnt a good representive of game performance. However for huge calculations like supercomputers do FLOPS matter.Or Coin mining for example. Posted July 7, 2015 With similar architecture, its the Compute/Shaders/StreamProcessing cores and higher amounts that lead to better performance. AMD & Nvidia have both kept similar clockspeeds across their ranges, differences being the processing cores and how many each part has in comparison to their own lineup. Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
 Posted July 7, 2015 Pick a price point and do some research. Youtube is a great source for benchmarks.
Posted July 7, 2015 Author ill change my question, within the same line of gpus which specs are the most impactfull on games? ive seen that the new pascal gpus will have ~10x the computing power of the current gpus and than ive read on the forum that computing power doesnt affect gaming performance so much and that there will probably be just a ~25% increase in gaming performance
 The higher end cards having the most. Other then that nothing really .

Ignore specs, look at performance numbers. All you're going to do is confuse yourself with thinking about specs. .
 Posted July 7, 2015 970 is 780ti. AMD has better compute performance. And ingame performance is really bad for some reason. That is why you have mining pcs with amd and not with nvidia. When it comes to pure horsepower, AMD wins hands down every time. If you want your computer to count as fast as possible then grab a AMD GPU. What Nvidia does really well is approximations. They are able to approximate polygons and such, which doesn't require as much pure horsepower. As far as importance, ROP's are important, clock speeds are important, and memory bandwidth is important. But you cant simply give up any of them for another and expect it to be better. A example would be this: Card A: 24 ROPs 1000mhz core 256-bit 4GB Card B: 18 ROPs 1100mhz core 256-bit 4GB Card A and B aren't the same, Card A would perform much better though because it has way more compute power. Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it. Take some time, and explain your issue, please! Posted July 7, 2015 What is important to me is not having coil whine and loud, noisey-ass cards. Alongside that a decent GPU for the money.
