I really don't get this opinion. Don't like his videos? Don't watch them. He provides a service = Entertainment. He's extremely popular. There are thousands of other YouTubers, but he's successful.

 

Who the fuck cares if he gets paid or not. Who are you to decide what criteria determines who on YT makes money? That's like people thinking Dora the Explorer is a fucking whore bitch because it's a popular kids program. PewDiePie's videos are designed and marketed towards a very specific demographic. If you're outside that demographic, then why do you care about him in the slightest?

 

I'm not a kid. I'm not his primary demographic. I don't like his content because I'm not the primary audience. I don't watch his videos at all. But I also think he's brilliant, and earned every penny he made.

Your view on this matter is quite interesting, and in my opinion, very detached from reality. Not all actors go to school to study acting or theatre.

 

Are you suggesting that an actor who has no formal training deserves to be paid less compared to one that has had training? Regardless of actual acting skill and popularity? Who are you to say that should be the case? There have been many very popular, A list actors that have never had formal training at all.

 

Pewdiepie makes regular videos - yes - but people watch them. That's the key difference here. You think he just get views because he makes a lot of videos? What? No. People like his content. YOU might not like it, but there are millions of people who flat out think you're wrong.

 

Entertaining people isn't easy. If it was, we'd have a million other PewDiePie's with as many subs as him. But there's only one PewDiePie. He's literally the most popular person on YouTube, for a reason. He's very good at what he does. He puts an extremely large amount of time and effort into getting those daily videos up.

 

Linus focuses on a different aspect. Linus is also very good at what he does, but his viewer base is extremely niche by comparison. That doesn't make Linus better or worse than PewDiePie.

 

As PewDiePie says: If you want Linus to be paid more, then keep refreshing his videos, and watch those ads. That's literally how he makes money. Also, don't forget to buy some LTT T-Shirts and donate monthly.

There's no "wrong way" to entertain people. If 37.8 million people like his content, they like his content. it doesn't matter if Pewdiepie earned a Bachelor's Degree in "Entertainment Theory." Having a personality people want to watch is, and should be, a marketable skill. It really doesn't matter if his content is immature, because the fact that he can be successful doing what he does has positive implications for others trying to be successful on Youtube as well.

 

Linus may be educating people with his technical knowledge, but he's entertaining them with his personality. His audience is probably heavily invested in his personality. I can get more raw technical explanation in an easier-to-reference format on Anandtech or Techreport. Without that personality, his viewership (and therefore his value to advertisers) would be less.

You are missing the point, I think that people who give other people knowledge and teach them about a subject, deserve more money than a entertainer, this is because they are helping more people understand a certain subject.

 

You see Professors at University, who teach people to a high level and get a low pay, compared to what some Youtube people make, I feel that this is wrong, the Professors are trying to help people to succeed in life by giving them an education.
