Getting Windows for free

Windows isn't cheap and I see videos of how to install it from a USB but then don't you need a system key? And I already have a laptop with windows 7 on but its been used (still being used) so can I copy the folder from there make it boot-able and then bypass the system key?

I got mine through dreamspark which is also free and they provide you a key. The ones you see in those might not require keys still it doesnt make it legit and most likely updates will fix that.

You still need a product key installing from USB...there is nothing special about installation via USB, the USB drive just replaces the cd/dvd.

 

Also no what your saying wont work at all with coping the windows files

not everyone has a school with dreamspark

well microsoft dreamspark only requires .edu email which your college should be providing you.

If they don't need an activation key, it's cracked and illegal. 

 

Also, your laptop is an OEM and can only be used with that device; even de-activating the key wouldn't allow you to activate it with any other machine. 

 

If you want Windows legitimately, you're gonna have to pay:

yes installing windows from a USB still needs to be activated by a key

no you cannot copy windows from another computer and use it on a second PC, BOTH need their own activation key or only one windows will work at a time

Well, not every university/college has .edu email system. More likely not when you are outside of US.

I bought windows 8.1 pro for students, I just used my university mail, it's not an American university (a Swedish one) and it worked for me.
