Does an SSD outlive you?

inb4 crystal ball comments

maybe. possibly.

But you will need quite a bit more storage than 256GB or even 1TB in 72 years anyways. So it doesn't matter

By the amount of data written they probably should, but then there is the factor of life, nothing works as it should.

Carey Holzman in his video's has said numerous times now that the Samsung 850 lasts 1000 years,. the 840 lasts 72 years  etc. :P

Do they really last that long in optimal conditions/when properly manufactured?

It all depends on how you look at it. Earlier, "affordable," SSDs had small capacities. I have a laptop with a 120 GB from work and there is only 10 GB left. It runs like a fricking hog. It's noticeably slow for an SSD. So while the components might outlive me, the drive and technology itself won't.

those numbers are based on the NAND write endurance

the SSD will die long before they reach their peak writes

from causes such as old age, malfunction, and other factors that cause normal wear
