Fry's Ripped me Off

Guest Philosophy

So back in 2012, I got a computer from Fry's custom computer department. They told me I would the specs were:

I7 3770k

Asus Z77Plus Mobo

Nvidia GT 520

16GB RAM

Etc

I learned yesterday they got a 3770 non K.  After I installed windows 8.1 it started coming up as 3770 rather than 3770k. Did frys alter my orginal OS some how?

EDIT: I KNOW IT IS A NON-K SKEW.

Should have check da bios. (which could have be altred too but....less likely)

Check in bios if you can

and if you bored open her up and look at the cpu it self.

Wait you haven't checked in 3 years what components you have after letting someone else build your pc?
Also that PC in 2012 has no sense to me with that GPU

Look in your BIOS if it says 3770 then its a non k skew but its too late now to do anything about.

But the real question is, why a GT 520 + i7 3770(K?)

Because in 2012 it is what I could afford.

Do you have the receipt?  ... compare serial numbers on the CPU to the serial number of the PC maybe?  Someway to verify that exact CPU was in that very machine upon purchase.

It might not have been for gaming.

I am not asking if they did, I am saying they did and asking how.

I doubt such a well-known company would do such a thing.

See, I work at Fry's and I want to buy a 3770K, but the 3770 is on sale and I can get it for $50 cheaper with my employee discount.  So I buy the 3770 and switch it with the 3770K in one of the builds going out.

Done, and done!

I forgot how, but its pretty easy to change the CPU name with regedit(or whatever). I changed my 4Ghz 8320 to a "8350" when I built my PC months ago.

That would help us a lot  :D We really can't help you with just words.

Also you bought a Z77 and a 3770K (or so you thought), haven't you ever tried OC-ing? That's what confuses me.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.
