Dell Unveils 32inch 4K monitor

GoodBytes

Dell unveils a new 32inch Ultra HD 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) monitor

200a.jpg

It is using, you guessed it: Sharp's indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panel. It's a wide gamut display, 1.07 billion colors.

But that is not all, like current Dell highest end models, it will come with a software which works with X-rite i1DisplayPro color calibrator, which will allow you to calibrate the monitor itself and not just by profile (something that is usually found on professional grade monitors. Of course, pro grade monitors, supports a wide range of color calibrators, this Dell one is only one). It obviously have a color processor and Lookup table.

As inputs: it will have mini-DisplayPort, HDMI (probably 1.4 and go at 24Hz on that), USB hub (most likely 3.0, like the current high end models form Dell), SD card reader. The monitor is of course, non glossy. And features touch sensitive buttons as it looks like from the picture above.

The stand is height adjustable, and in full aluminum.

Based on leaked info here and there on Dell documentation of it's sound bar for monitors, it looks like it will be called The Dell UP3214Q.

Dell plans a Q4 2013 release.

No info on price.

It's awesome, but I see a bit of Apple in the design. And that's a good thing.

Any word on pricing? Probably similar to ASUS' model if I had to guess.

I have to disagree, but if Apple does anything right, it's design and build quality.

I don't think that's a problem, because most everyone prefers something with apple like look and quality, especially quality,vs something with one of the cheap plastic stands with a glossy bezel.

Actually the design, is the similar to the old Dell U2410/U2711/U3011 monitors (so previous gen), mixes with the rounded corner of the current gen (U2413, U2711 series, U3014, etc).
All they did, is put the bottom of the stand in aluminum instead of black.

i won't get one simply because my 2gb of vram would be not even close to enough. That and it will probably cost 4000 dollars.

I don't think it's a problem either. It looks great. That's why when I bought a monitor, I chose this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009V8F700

They look nice. I never really knew what the design of the older UltraSharp monitors looked like, and I stand corrected.

That is why I cried when the new design came out... not a fan.
I love my U2410. Such high built quality. Looks professional and sleek. What I like about it, is how Dell did everything to hide the usual monitor sticker(s) about manufacturing date, bar code, serial number, revision, power info, and all that, by putting all that info in a slide out small panel right next to the USB ports and media card reader (see picture above, you don't see the panel). So that it follows regulations, but doesn't ruin the design.

This is the back.
2.jpg

So if you have an desk, where it's in the middle of the room, the monitor looks nice on it.
The power LED is a very soft blue LED so it's doesn't distract you at all, even if you look at it. And the on screen menu buttons illuminates as you bring your finger close to the monitor, so that you know where it is so that you can press it, and all navigation button illuminates as well. And the on screen menu is semi transparent (transparency level is adjustable) and looks really nice.

You know it's the little details that all adds up, and make something awesome in the end.

Now make one that looks like that and you will have a customer. I will have like 5 in portrait if they can make a bezel-less design.

I have loved the design of Dell's ultrasharp monitors for a long time now, I feel it's one of the only product lines that Dell does right.

I actually don't like it. Also the "bezel-less" design is a lie. The bezel is still there in full force. They just added a sheet of glass on the display.

What you want for true "bezel-less", well ultra thin one, is Video-wall monitors. Like these ones (but smaller, and yes there exists smaller one):

The-Jet-Business-Matrox-Mura-Video-Wall.

The problem is that they are really no cheap. Hence why it's only available for commercial applications, and even then, you need to call for a quote.

Anyway, Dell has monitors that look like that, see their S series

I think I would stick with my U2713 since I could not afford to drive a 4k while gaming

Waiting on price but if it's not that bad I might jump on this when it comes out....it might drive me to upgrade my video card to one with display port

Has a very clean and nice look. Hope this 4k monitor is affordable.

Don't count on it.  Sharp charges $4800 for this monitor.  Asus charges $3500 for the same panel, different enclosure. Dell will likely charge $3000+.  We will have to wait for the 3rd generation of 4K monitors for widespread use (2015).

People keep saying Apple makes nice looking products. They make white brushed aluminium products and thats about it. In my opinion I don't like the look of Apple products at all. But I don't like phones or mobile devices either. This Dell monitor looks like every other Dell monitor rather than an Apple monitor.

I think you miss read.

DisplayPort is far superior to HDMI. And everything works perfectly well with DisplayPort.

DisplayPort can do 10-bit colors 4K, 60Hz.

HDMI 2.0 can do 8-bit colors at 4K, 60Hz.... at least that's their goal, the specs is not even in final stages. HDMI website only gimps about HDMI 2.0 and that it can do 4K, without going in any details.

If you are talking about the MST Hub having issues.

1-> Your GPU can't handle 4K in gaming to start wirth, 2x 4X it will struggle, let alone work

2-> That's a the MST Hub problem. Not DisplayPort. You should use the different inputs on your graphic card, not a hub.
