Hello,

If you have $1000 to spend, I'm a big supporter of Dell. The XPS 13 is a solid choice in my opinion.

If you are not going to be gaming on it, I would recommend a Dell laptop, I use one that is almost three years old and still runs well with linux currently. I am an IT major and just finished my first year

So an ultrabook, basically? At that point you might consider a Macbook then.

Anything else besides Dell? Just had bad experience with them. Are the newer Dells better and which version of the XPS 13.

I will look at it. Do you think Best Buy or Microcenter might have it? I would like to see it in person as well.

Lenovo Y50 seems very good for your usage, but what kind of programs will you be running? And

I will check it out. Thanks. Computer is really slow at work but here is the link https://cse.osu.edu/research. I'm assuming C++ and C#, and JAVA. Maybe some other stuff.

No gaming at all :). Which Dell I can check it out but had a bad experience with Dell in the past.

I have back pack that has a laptop enclosure for it. It is meant for motorcycle riding but I can use that.

Either the MacBook or the MacBook Pro. Normal MacBook for design and lightness, Pro for power and design.

I have an inspiron 15r 5520, no longer in production, the only complaint I have with it is how heavy it is, and I know a few people who have hp laptops that have a WiFi issue and the only Sony one that I have used had a horrible track pad.

I still have a Dell Inspiron 600M from 2003 running Bodhi Linux and there's no issues at all. I still use it as a mini server and it runs fine, even the OEM hard drive still works.

The only reason why I upgraded was the msata ssd in my Dell mini 910 died and it was too expensive to replace for what I paid for it

Between those three majors. I'm on ie 8 so I can't really see which programs they use in those majors.

Dell XPS or Macbook Air. Those are pretty much the two solid portable laptops on the market right now.
