In the build I am saving up for I am using a i5 4690k and ill probably stick with it, but IF i choose to go Amd, which one should I get. My buget is around 200 usd.

You don't.

(But FX 8350 would be in that budget. but it's not as good in gaming)

And this is where that if came into play. I just wish I could get a cheaper processor but same performance but AMD is being stupid so I guess not.

Take a look at the i5 4460.

It's most of the time just as good in gaming for a lower price (but no overclocking, so you can save up on motherboard too)

The closest thing would be an FX 8350 or 8370 (the cheapest of the two). You could go for an 8320 however, which is a lower clocked 8350 for cheaper and can usually be easily overclocked to 8350+ level.

If you want a gaming build however these options aren't that great for you. The 8320 has good value for stuff like virtual machines, medium video editing and multitasking, video conversions with stuff like format factory and of course all the basic stuff. But in gaming it really falls short of somothing like an i5 and sometimes even an i3, which is often cheaper.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

if purely for gaming, i5 4460 will be enough. unless you just really wants to play with overclocking and all.

Why would u even consider amd ?! i5 beats the closest reasonable CPU from AMD (fx 8350).

Stick with i5 but u might wanna wait for broad well or even skylake to upgrade if your mobo supports it. Broad well is out any minute now I think and skylake is releasing from September onwards (not sure i5 is included but u can check if u want to wait that long).

well that still highly depends on the games you play, and how you play them exaly.

But most games at the moment play better on an i5 CPU.

I am not 100% but I believe that, because games such as Witcher 3 which take advantage of all cores, future games made for the octacore consoles will favour 8350 more so than current titles. I remember a youtube video comparing i5 and 8350 in Witcher 3 and the 8350 was on par with it and slightly ahead in some instances.

But most games at the moment play better on an i5 CPU.

But still it depends a bit from game to game.

But yes the i5 is basicly a better allround chip for gaming.

However we start to see newer AAA games, realy starting to become well optimized to use multiple threads.

Like some people allready point out with Witcher 3 for example.

Remember that newer games starting to become more and more GPU demending, and less cpu.

Also with some new DX12 game titles in the pipeline, i think that users who currently have a 8350, are basicly still fine for a while.

Also I have a FX8350 for more then 2 years, and i never had a single game, which wasnt playable on it.

The only reason why i want to jump to intel, is because i want a 5820k for virtualization.

Still the FX suits me very well for this kind of workload, but the 5820k gives me a bit more workflow.

At a $200 USD budget you can get a locked i5, no reason to really buy the AMD as the i5 is more consistent with its performance.

Some people do more than just gaming.

He didn't specify and i5 is good for everything. FX gets slightly better score in multithreaded tests but not very much.

http://anandtech.com/bench/product/697?vs=1261

Some people play and stream games on i5 so its well capable of doing more than just game.

I might be little fanboying since I chose Intel way (before I had no money and planned fx8350 build) and its been very satisfying for me.

However I would love to do a blind test (perform same tasks on identical machines (excluding CPU and mobo of course) and see if I could tell 8350 from 4690).

i5-4690k if you want to overclock or the i5-4590 if you don't want to overclock and it is about $190. Both are faster, cooler, more power efficient and to sum it up better than AMD's FX, A series or Phenom processors at your budget. Then just pair the K'ed i5 with a Z97 mobo or a B85 mobo for the non K.
