Is there something I could buy for my girlfriends TV that allows her TV to watch movies from a USB?

It's a kind of old TV so I don't think it supports it out of the box.

Rule 34

That rule does not apply to this question, because the question is if it exists.

We don't know if it exists, so we can't say for there's porn for it.

Any kind of media player with HDMI / scart / composite out(depending on the connections available)... even some DVD players have USB slots on them.

Chrome-cast will connect to a wifi network and you can stream movies to the tv.

Yep, that's a good choice too.

It of course features a USB port and is passively cooled and all that cool stuff :)

Just be sure the linux version on it (or the media player on it) supports the file extension you have the movie in

Actually easier thing to do would be to get one of those Android sticks, much more familiar environment.

That could work too ^_^ so Pi as the base system, so how are you going to control it? The android HDMI things have BT built bet BT usb and then maybe use one of the tiny keyboard mouse combo.

Well you can set the Pi next to the TV and just plug in one of those keyboard mouse combos and just use it like a PC.

Agreed, especially if shes not a techie, she might even find it annoying and smash the thing. An Android TV stick is much more friendly, has all the support for it, WiFi, BT, SD, micro USB and everything else you could wish for. :)

Use a chromecast, then you can stream stuff from either the phone, tablet or from a chrome browser on a PC, so you could set up the movies on the PC and stream that way (guessing here) or you can use an OTG cable to connect a USB to a phone or tablet and stream it that way. Slightly convoluted but pretty cheap.

Got one from ebay for like 20 pounds, but not kitkat version. It works with logitech wireless unifying receiver for mouse and keyboard, it has bluetooth, wi-fi is good. Thing is amazing, one problem is it's 720p. Atleast the older version was.

actually OTG/slimport/MHL could be a good option based on what phone she is using.
