Should I get an anti virus

JamesIsBatman

Hi everyone! I'm building a new gaming pc very soon and I never though about viruses and malware. Anyway I would like to know if any of you use an anti virus software and whether it's worth getting one? This is my first gaming pc and I don't want anything to mess up. If it is worth getting an anti virus software then tell me which one to get.

I recommend an antivirus software called "Don't be Stupid: Only Click Trustworthy Things"; it works very well for me. xD

Bitdefender has the best one atm. I'm actually not paying for one, I just keep doing their 30 day trials over and over again lol. I might end up buying a years license at some point.

@Worth. That won't work all the time. Suppose a legit website gets compromised.

Well shit, I couldn't put it better myself :P

Sorry to be a bit of a bastard but that is a bit of a stupid question mate, get a decent anti-virus program.

I'm rocking Avast Free Anti-Virus and Malwarebytes and it is true that they won't protect you 100% of the time, it'll certainly protect you a little more than having no anti-virus.

You can get Avast for free. Most likely will have everything you need.

You could buy but there are free anti-virus programs out there that are very good, I use Avast and I've not had any issues with it in the 4 or so years that I've used it.

If you're interested, here is the link.

That is correct but also requires careful driving on your part :P can't rely on any anti-virus to protect against everything.

I heard a little quote from someone that I really like and is very relevant on another channel which goes along the lines of 'you can buy the safest car with the most airbags, but does it decrease the chance of you having an accident, no, learn to be a better driver' I don't think it is the exact thing as that but something like it.

BE A BETTER DRIVER :P

I am using MSE and common sense (as in, don't download "SuperHotGirlNextDoorSexTape.MP4.exe". Common sense does not protect you from all attacks (you can be infected if some program on your computer has a security hole, and there are sometimes nothing you can do about it) so I recommend you use a real time anti-virus. MSE is pretty solid and does not cost anything.

I recommend you at least install Avast, Avaria or AVG free versions as they are pretty good. At the same time have Malwarebytes.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Also, if you can, get an anti-virus you can run off of a disc, just in case you do get infected and can't boot into Windows.

Currently using Avast Pro which i bought last year for $9. Good and light enough to run on the background with zero performance hit, its like it never there. The free version is good too though.

MSE can barely detect anything. And AVG hogs resources.

another happy Avast registered user here.

I've been using the free version since around 2006 or so.
