Ancient hardware question

So i'm upgrading a really old PC to turn it into a rudimentary home server and I have no idea what ram my cpu supports. DDR or DDR2. My cpu is an amd athlon xp 2200+. Any ideas?

I believe it is DDR as that is what AMDs Socket As ran.

It's definitely DDR. Alternatively, you could look up DDR and DDR2 and match the notches with your board and/or RAM sticks.

Also do you know how much ram this thing will support?

DDR.

Also do you know how much ram this thing will support?

If it supports anything more than 2GB, I will be amazed. More than 3GB and I will be thoroughly shocked.

I had one of those once. MSI KT4-V. Using the VIA KT400 chipset. Probably one of the last good chipsets VIA put out. Once they hit the K8 series they got super wonky.

Be careful with DDR RAM in that board, it is from what I call the "Annoying Compatibility" era where everything hates each other. Stick to the approved memory list for the board and it should work fine.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

I think I got lucky in that regard with all of my old boards. Everything works with everything from my 386DX 40 board all the way to my Abit VP6.

HA! ABIT! I miss Abit!

I had a lot of issues with my first "true" gaming PC. Athlon Thunderbird 1333 on an Asus A7V266. I must have exchanged five or six sets of RAM until I got some that worked. Had to use... I think it was Corsair ValueRAM at the time.

Still have that board but it won't POST anymore. Makes me sad.
