[Press Release] X-Box to Appear at The PC Gaming Show

zMeul

So for all you folks freaking out Spencer gave a little interview to PC gamer talking about why MS is there and a little bit about what MS see for the future: http://www.pcgamer.com/interview-phil-spencer-on-why-microsoft-is-joining-the-pc-gaming-show/

Whatever comes of this whole thing it at least seems like Phil Spencer wants this to work. Love the bit of honesty about why GFWL failed miserably.

You can do that with any laptop and a controller.. No need an Xbox. Use steam in-home streaming. Supports on the fly hardware encoding from your main PC as well using the encoding hardware which all radeon and geforce GPUs now have. And you can even add non-steam games so origin and gog games will work too. If that's what you want no need to buy an Xbox.

^ :)

I knew of Steam in-home streaming, but never thought of using like that somehow.

Good to know!

“With Windows 10, we’re bringing the best of Xbox with the best of Windows gaming, including Xbox Live and the new Xbox app, Game DVR for nearly every game, and DirectX 12 for better gaming graphics and performance.”

“Windows is a vital element of the PC gaming experience for so many of us, and I’m excited to see what Microsoft has in store,” said Tim Clark, Global Editor-in-Chief, PC Gamer. “The PC Gaming Show is a celebration of every aspect of the platform, so I’m delighted Xbox has decided to play such a key part in it.”

The way they word it is as if the xbox some how improves PC gaming. I fail to see how. Unless they are going to allow cross-platform multiplayer, I could care less about the consoles. Just how is xbox playing "such a key part" in PC gaming?

Xbox is a multi-platform multi-media brand, not just a single console. For MS Xbox games means consoles, mobile, and PC. Xbox is a console, Xbox is part of WinMo, Xbox is part of Win10. It's all connected. MS is trying to build a single multi-platform ecosystem instead of everything being divisioned off by hard walls.

AMD are likely going to be showing off new features of the GCN architecture and DX12, and guess what architecture the Xbone is using? I already was under the impression that Microsoft would be there considering DX12 is their API, and Xbox was already announced as being integrated into windows 10, so this thread is a surprise to me that Microsoft being a sponsor of the Gaming show was just announced.

That's a lot of TBD at the moment. Check out the interview I posted. Sound like MS is planning to talk about a lot of that stuff at the conference.

I'm sure it won't. if anything we'll see more exclusives, more microtrans, and more unfinished games.

They want to be 'top dog' in the digital destribution of games so bad. alas, they fucked up years ago. all the best to them if it actually makes PC gaming better.

I'm a skeptic, however.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way. I guess they're just trying to show how it's all connected (or will be), not necessarily how it makes PC gaming better per say.

I can see xbox getting boo'd on stage when they start talking about it. Much of the PC gaming crowd is not keen on the consoles... lol.

Will be curious to watch the show and hear what they have to say, regardless. PCs and consoles have never been more closely related in terms of hardware and software before so I can understand where they want to go with one eco system across multiple platforms. The thing is; if they want to get PC gamers to pay attention to, and/or buy into the xbox, there has to be some very compelling reasons to do so.

Personally, I think PC gaming and consoles should be kept as separate entities/platforms. PC gaming constantly evolves because the hardware is constantly evolving. Consoles are longer-life fixed-hardware platforms and because of this, they should remain separate.

I think "gaming consoles" and that whole general concept needs to be re-evaluated. I think Nintendo is more in-touch with this than MS and Sony. MS and Sony have tried to make the consoles something very different and compete where it should not be competing (against PCs). Console gaming is (should be) all about exclusives, as it used to be back in the day.

I want xbox live parties on PC. I'd even pay for xbox live again. Of course I wouldn't want that to be mandatory though. (before people start hating me, xbox live was actually quite amazing. I loved it and frankly miss quite a few aspects of it since I switched to pc. Also, i'd be nice to join parties of my console friends now and then. And my girlfriend too).

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.

I would get kicked out of that conference for sure. I hope the crowd heckles the shit out of them.

Microsoft will be on my shit list until I get all the Halo games for PC (I want to finish the story, don't care about multiplayer because halo multiplayer hasn't been good since the first game), and I can turn off automatic updates on W10.

Wait, the IT security professionals, or the security guards? Not sure why the guards would be heckling them.

I doubt they'll be boo'd. Crowds at these things tend to be a bit more professional about things. They'll just be snarky in live blogs or after the fact reports.

What I'd love to see is MS announce streaming games from PC to the Xbox 1. Streaming from the XB1 to the PC is neat and something I'll probably do a few times for the hell of it, but the other way around would be nice. A wireless adapter for XB1 controllers would be appreciated too.

They would never do that, as it would render the Xbone completely and utterly pointless. The only reason they are offering you Xbone to PC streaming, is to entice people to buy a xbone to get the opportunity to play their exclusives on PC.
