60hz vs 144hz

So im getting a 980 ti. Should I get a 60hz Widescreen 1080p monitor or a 144hz 16:9 1080 monitor?

If i get 60hz won't it mean im wasting the 980ti because the 60hz monitory can't go past 60 fps?

You are wasting the 980ti with a 144hz 1080p. Lol it'd destroy 1080p. The 980ti would eat 1080p for warmup. Try finding a 1440p in your price range at 60hz or if you don't have a price range go big or go home.

dont get a monitor thats 1080p 144hz. such a waste, especially for 980ti, get a 1440p 144hz or 120hz, but ye 60hz is for gpu's around that frame, 980ti will go way over 60, 180's and stuff defepending on game, so get 120hz or 144hz, 1440p, not 1080p

1440p 60hz if you are maxing the game out you more than likely aren't go to much above 60 so 60hz should be good.

get an crossover or qnix, search on ebay they are around that price, cheap and its 1440p and you can oc it to 120hz or 90hz

Everytime I see someone say that I facepalm so hard.

Also I should mention that it is much harder to run 1080p 144hz than 1440p 60hz if you want the framerate to stay close to the monitor's refresh rate.

neither get a 1440p or 4k monitor.

1080p need to die and fast.. its holding back the PC market.

like 80% of gamers game at 1080p (exact figures can be found on steam surveys) which means developers of games and hardware tend to use that as a ballpark.

a 980ti is wasted on 1080p anything even 144hz.

144hz at 1080p is hard to push (even for a top tier card) in new AAA games.Its actually harder that 1440p 60hz.OP if you like twitch shooters than get a 1080p 144hz.If not you will be MUCH happier with a 1440p 60hz ips or even a wide screen 21:9 monitor(be warned with a wide screen all your online videos will have black bars...I ended up grabbing a second monitor because it drove me nuts but movies look amazing)

144hz 1080p or 1440p 60hz... don't go 1440p 144hz unless you have plans to SLI another 980Ti later... It's surprising the amount of people that assume that the 980Ti will go past 80fps on the newest games at ultra in 1440p.

Is the cheapest monitor you will find with those specs.  $500 is the price.  Really though, if you are spending $650 just for a single graphics card you better be willing to spend the money required to even make proper use of it, because what is the point then?  You could have bought a cheaper card, saved some money, and noticed no difference in games, or maybe used that money you saved to buy a better monitor that would have made better use of the card that you did buy.

LOl that's a freesync monitor and not g-sync. I say rather save up for a 144hz 1440p but if you must get one now get a 144hz 1080p

He never asked for g-sync.  And also a g-sync monitor would cost a lot more with those specs. A freesync monitor will still work with an nvidia graphics card, you just won't have the variable refresh rate.

60hz is better you wont be getting above 60fps in most modern games...

 

Unless your want to play a competitive fps like counter strike.
