Xbox 360 wireless on PC?

minibois
Go to solution Solved by Nexxus,

You need a dongle, but the official ones are quite pricey and I have an unofficial one linus showcased on an old handy tech episode but it was finicky as hell to get the comp to recognize it and it threw up USB errors constantly.

id save the money and save up over the next few months and get an XBO controller with a dongle..or an XBO con now and get the dongle later (you can use it wired today via micro usb) frankly the xbo con is way nicer imho.

Can you use wireless Xbox 360 controllers on PC (games), or do you really need a wired  360 controller?

If so, do you need any adapters or something for it?

Might pick up a used 360 controller on a flea market later, but want to be informed first.

id also be apprehensive about getting a used xb360 controler they are easily the worse cons i've had for dependability. The bumpers fuck up easy and will struggle to activate unless you press them in a very particular place (I think on the edges closest to the center of the controler) and are a bitch to repair and even then the analog sticks tend to lose tenstion and get very loose after years of use.

There's a wireless adapter for them, but the software and drivers are complete crap to be honest. Wired is really a much better option.

Hmm, alright.

Thanks for the quick responses :)

If I see a cheap wired controller, I will pick it up. Don't care about wireless anyways.

I use a €15 wireless dongle. It is really easy to set up especially in windows 8.1. If you want to know how to set it up just pm me (in Dutch) and I'll explain.

15 euros.. Well a new wired controller is 35 euros and if I could get a 2nd hand for 5 euros or so.. It might be worth it.

Will keep in mind, thanks :D

I'd love to use my old Microsoft racing wheel/pedals setup from my Xbox360. I picked up a wired xbox 360/windows controller for Fps/sideside scrollers. Could someone point me in the direction of a reliable wireless dongle/receiver?

The official 360 wireless racing wheel works with the standard wireless adapter, which you could buy on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2

If you decide to buy this and the CD driver doesn't work (for me it didn't) shoot me a PM and I'll give you the way I got it to work.

I use a generic wireless 360 receiver from ebay. It's the same as the Microsoft receiver and uses the same drivers as the Microsoft wireless receiver. My PC is really a high end XBOX machine on my PC. They are $8-10 on ebay.
