I personally found this fascinating and it seems to me that most people demanding 'respect' for the hardware Linus uses are colon crucified at not having access to the same resources.

I'm very glad he has access to these things so he can produce videos I can enjoy, I personally loved that video - respect to anybody who didn't enjoy it, but don't complain about what he chooses to do with his channel. It's not harming you in any way, is it?

Is it?

Nope, we are not upset about him having hardware that we don't but rather the lack of respect that he is showing towards it.

Let me put it as an analogy- suppose you see a kid abusing his parents/ elders, and behaving like a brat; albeit it's none of your business, you will want to do something about it/ have some say and tell someone that it's wrong; it's a similar situation here- Linus is behaving spoiled and ill treating his hardware by not being patient and possibly ruining what's a 4500$ CPU because he wants to create a video that shows him ghettoing something.

Another argument, not related to your comment, but similar is that why do we as the audience care; it's his hardware. It's because we're personally invested in his content in some way. I've been watching his content since 3+ years, and it's because of us the audience he is as popular as he is today and is the reason why companies like Intel, Kingston, and Nvidia are even willing to send him hardware which runs upwards of over 15000$+; it's because he has us, the audience (or atleast had [-1 me after this]). When we see someone spoil the opportunity presented to them as a direct result of our support, we are bound to be impacted in some way.

Thats only if you equate treating hardware more roughly than you are 'comfortable' with, with a child abusing his parents.

I feel like Linus literally said this "Hmmm, wait 5 days, or possibly damage thousands of dollars worth of hardware...?"

Note the possibly.

Part of his schtick is his apparent irreverance for hardware he wouldn't be as popular if all his videos were just dry recitations of numbers.

C.F. Barnucles - Bordering on too irreverant.

Jayztwocents   - Bordering on too dry (allthough he is trying to bring the humour back to his videos).

The podcasts with the two of them seem to hit the right mix

I guess I am the only person not bothered in how he treats it, frankly he could frisbee a pc out the window for the lels and I wouldnt mind

While I watch LTT for its informative nature, first and foremost I watch it for entertainment - in fact its one of the few tech channels I am subscribed to, most are too boring and stale

if linus created 2 videos which per PC builds, one is on a table being done properly, the other is on top of a burning car and he is building it with his feet, bindfolded - I would rather watch the second one

Don't you have vessel? The coolers for his dual xeons didn't fit, so he just zip tied them on, it ended not fixed, because it wasn't posting

Much dodginess for very very expensive hardware

If you've watched his videos you'd know most things are half assed. About the only thing that isn't half assed is the video quality. They go above and beyond to make sure the video looks good and it's edited well, but they'll mount (shittily) pc fans on the side of their house for water cooling. Half assing things is the normal.

It is not even the fact that he threats expensive hardware that he got as freebies like shit, but he makes a 15 minutes about it ...

people were angry about him spliting up the whole room watercooling build in that many parts, but at least something happend in (most of) that videos.

Zip ties are legit. We've used them at work to secure all manners of things. Worth 2-3-5x those measly xeons. It's fine.

AFAIK and certainly in my case I was whinging that he had split it into many parts because  like the "scrapyard wars" it was very episodic, a week between parts.  That's was what was nipping me not the fact that it was in three-four-five parts.

Linus

Takes off the cpu hold down for his two $4500 cpus, on his server board. Then balances it on $1500 of gpu, then fucking BREAKS IT! (I think). I get doing this for a 4790k,but on a system like this, just no. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No no.

It's all relative.

To me (and possibly to you) bricking a 4790k is a cause for tears whereas someone who got it (or rather a much more advancedchip) for 'free' is not going to be so bothered .

Cant even see what it is because I don't have a Vessel account.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

No, I get that a 4790 is not much to them, but two freaking 18 core Zions? That's too far, by anyone's standards.
