EVGA GTX970 vs G1 GTX970 [SOLVED]

ormax

Hi guys,

So soon I will be purchasing my graphics card at www.dabs.ie

I don't plan to hardcore overclock, but I might overclock it slightly.

I just want it to keep relatively quiet (dunno, around 30db) and cool.

I have shortlisted my new graphics card to two options:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB PCI-Express 3.0 HDMI G1 Gaming

http://www.dabs.ie/products/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-970-4gb-pci-express-3-0-hdmi-gaming-9S3S.html?refs=4294945034-505780000&src=3

or

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 1165MHz 4GB PCI-E 3.0 HDMI ACX SC Cooling 2.0

http://www.dabs.ie/products/evga-geforce-gtx-970-1165mhz-4gb-pci-e-3-0-hdmi-acx-cooling-2-0-9WGM.html?refs=4294945034-505780000&src=3

My pc currently looks like this:

Intel i5-4460 + Evo 212, Gigabyte HD 5770, 8gb ram HyperX 1866mhz , SSD MX100 256gb with Gigabyte H97M-3DH on a 2560x1080 25" monitor.

Many will say the G1.

But I'd go Evga in your case.

Definitely the G1. Nothing special about the regular ACX 2.0

What is so good about the G1 970?

Give me a proper reasoning to spend those 15 more euros on it ;3

Better cooler. Is binned so that you can achieve high overclock. Has better power delivery.

Has sexy backplate and bling bling LEDs.

Well a month ago I bought a EVGA 970 FTW , unfortunetly it had a big coil whine issue . It was unbearable even with fps locked to very low amounts .

I changed it up for a G1 , and I couldn't be happier . Not only there is no coil whine , but this card is a beast overclocker and runs atleast 5-6 degrees cooler .

I am running it right now at 1515 clock , not even touching the voltage .

There is only 1 problem with the G1 and that is the idle fan speeds . By default the fans are running too high I think , but I fixed it pretty easy with the tutorial on this forum (and linus's video) that shows you how to get fanless mode on any 970. (I didnt set the fans to turn off but lowered the minimum speed at idle) .

I would go with the G1 it has a nice backplate and LED and is nice and quiet.

And yeah most 970's sag so a backplate really helps

That is a very reasonable answer, Thank you man.
