Any "Recent" CPU that can survive without a heatsink?

duriel

Or even run with small passive heatsinks like you're able to place on the VRMs?

As in, no heatsink/cooler at all or close to nothing keeping it cool.

Why would you ever want to do this?

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

A core M from intel. Can run optimally with only a 1mm thick sheet of copper.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Atom/Core M... they're in tablets for a reason :P

I heard 4790Ks run fine without a heatsink. You should try it!

I once had a Core2duo something that ran without a heatsink for an hour xD

But most atoms can run with a small heatsinks.

And almost any cpu can be cooled passively but requires a large cooler.

good first option

it'd end up throttling too hard, but is theoretically possible. keep two cores enabled, ht off, low voltage + 1ghz clock speed~?

AMD's AM1 chips have a mere 25W TDP and can run with tiny heatsinks

Intel's low-voltage desktop "T" chips have 35W TDPs

That's about the lowest you'll get for desktop class chips

If you can get over the size, I'm pretty sure an nh-d15 can keep most cpus (at stock speeds) sufficiently cool even without fans.

i mean zero heatsink involved at all

yeah i was thinking kabini is basically the only option

Are you looking for something like the Q2900M from Asrock?

It's not the most powerful CPU in the world, but it's a quadcore with 2,4 GHz....

basically

i just wanted the novelty of running a pc with no heatsink, but a passive non-moving one like that would work as well

but i wasn't looking for an aftermarket cooler with no fans attached, that beats the point (like the nh-d14/15 suggestion.. lol)

this takes the lead so far pretty much.

- Running a PC without fans? Yes: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/342534-finished-full-passive-powerful-workstation-gaming-rig-who-said-it-cant-be-done/ ;)

- Running a PC without a heat sink? Phu, that's difficult. You will be limitted to <5W, I guess. Without a smal (> 60x60x40mm) heat sink you won't have a good PC.
