G3258.

Not in any sort of way ever, that is such a bad recommendation i can't even handle it mentally.

If you can get the i5, get that above any i3, or pentium, Period

Any i5 will mop the floor with a G3258, even overclocked. Save your money and get the i5-4440 though, and then save some more money because then you can use H81 boards.

Pentium offers better performance per $

It's overall performance is less than half of the i5.

to get the pentium on the basis it has better performance/$ ratio is like buying a bicycle over a car to drive 50 miles to work everyday because it offers better performance per dollar, when you can safely w/o problem get the car for only slightly more than the bike. It makes no sense in any way, and no one should do it. Plainly, if you can afford the i5 or even an i3 in your budget, you should 99% of the time get that over the pentium.

i5-4690 has better overall compared with Pentium G3258, even when overclocked. Go with i5, G3258 is still good for gaming but its overall speed is much worse compared with i5.

I am just confused why you can get a 4690 and not a 4690k... Why not just get the K and OC it? Not like it costs much more

Obviously the i5 is going to win Just a more money minded approach.

For gaming it's still not best for the money, for that, you'll want an i3. G3258, even overclocked, struggles in AAA titles, if it works at all.

Benchmarks show an OC g3258 is fstser than a fx-6300 and i3-4130

I'd totally go for the i5, it will be much better for pretty much every task you throw at it, and having 4 cores helps a lot with gaming, especially with newer titles like FC4, and GTA V, stuff like that.

Benchmarks aren't real world performance, where frame rate dips and stuttering are perceivable issues not illustrated on those graphs.

Most people are saying that even a non overclocked i5 4690 beats a g3258. i looked on youtube video comparing games with a g3258 at 4.7 and a i5 4690k at 4.8 and the 4690k at 4.8 was only beating the g3258 at 4.7 with a gtx 970 by only a couple of frames

Depends on the use case.

I wouldn't use a g3258 for anything but a fun toy or maybe an HTPC.

I do far too much at one time and would get very bogged down by the g3258s limited throughput.
