720P at 144Hz or 8K at 30Hz?

kenjigreat

Hypothetically if you could ONLY play games at these frame rates and resolution which would you go for?

And before anyone ask I know this is kinda ridiculous since most people at the moment will are perfectly happy with their setup and game at 1080P/60Hz, 1440P/60Hz or 144Hz.

I'm just curious how many people would want an ultra smooth experience at all cost.

All settings are on Ultra , AA is disabled.

8k at 30hz any day of the week.

I prefer clarity and quality over smoothness. I'm making do at 4k with a 770 soo I'm used to hovering around 30fps.

How about 4k at 60fps?

I wouldn't be able to stand 720p with no AA.

But 30 FPS is also unbearable to me.

When in doubt: C4

I know 4K at 60 is desirable the reason the question is phrased this way is to make sure that Either the Framerate or Resolution is undesirable .

I already stated , we all know 1080P+ and 60FPS + is desirable . The question is how far would you go in one direction to get a desirable framerate or resolution with one being undesirable.

8k 30

I LOVE 60fps and 144fps.. but 720 can fuck right off.. especially on displays larger than like 19"

If I have GSync on the 8k I might consider the 8k 30hz, otherwise it'd probably be 720p 144hz because tearing seriously sucks once you're used to GSync

Its funny how people hate 720P , I used to game heavily on my PS3 and Uncharted 2+3 were my favorite games , Playing those on my 1080P 22'Inch Monitor doesn't disturb me at all and that was running at 30FPS.

Now I'm using a GTX 980 SLI setup on a 28-Inch 4K G-sync monitor and gaming on anything less than 1440P makes me sick.

I guess screensize plays a huge role.

Well its 30 FPS Locked and stable , Does tearing occur when the framerate never moves beyond or below 30?

Playing on a 42" TV on a sofa 720p is fine (I love uncharted too) but on like a 27" or something size monitor, it would look SO bad

Yea I guess , I sit really close to my screens . Personally I can never own a screen bigger than 32 Inches , small room and also I hate gaming far away.

27" is perfect for desk use, but for a tv my 47" is just too small

lol 1080p looks bad at that res too. I have a htcp attached to a 32" TV in my bedroom, when I load windows it looks terrible even at like 6ft away.

it maybe because I'm so used to playing with my nose pressed against a 4k display lol I'm not used to being able to see pixels

Depends on the monitor, if vsync is off and the monitor is 144hz it'll tear

6ft is not very far to sit away from a TV, 1080p on  a TV at decent distance, there is no chance of seeing pixels

its probably closer to 4 foot my bed from the tv, either way windows looks bad at 1080p on a 32" TV!

720p 144Hz, anything lower than 60Hz is pain for your eyes, refresh rate =/= framerate.

30FPS on a 60Hz display = good.

30FPS on a 30Hz display = bad.

8k at 30hz any day of the week.

Set your monitor at 30Hz then come back to me  :P.

My understanding is that [a solid] 30 FPS on a 60 Hz monitor will not tear. 30 is half of 60, so that means each frame matches up evenly to two refresh cycles. I would assume 120 FPS wouldn't tear at 60 Hz, either, because again the frames don't fall in between refreshes.

Similarly I don't think 72 FPS tears at 144 Hz.

In any case if your framerate is fluctuating, you'll still see tearing whenever it's not precisely 30. You'd probably see some tearing at 31 FPS @ 60 Hz.
