I can't really compare other coolers to the NH-D14 simply because it's the only custom air cooler I've owned, but it's very impressive. I have my FX-6300 clocked at 5.02 GHz and get 50 degrees Celsius under max load. That's with the fans running at half the speed...

I did a bit more research and it looks like the Kraken X61 would be the best bet for a higher budget. It doesn't necessarily crush the NH-D15, but it does cool it a bit more by degrees or so. The NHD-15 is much quieter than the Kraken, though.

Really? I guess if budget isn't an issue then I'd just go with some low RPM Noctua fans and slap them on the Kraken.

I wish i still had the budget for some really good quality noctua fans :D

The 212X has better fans and considerably better performance than the Evo.

If you're not looking at high overclocks, the noctua NH-U12S could be a very good option. It's a bit pricey, but noctua mounting hardware and support are very good, it come with a noctua NF-F12 fan on it and should have no motherboard compatibility issues.

In the UK the NHU12s actually costs the same as the NHU14s, which is considerably better at cooling. It depends on your budget and what size cooler your case supports.

No budget or size restrictions then definitely go for the NHD15.

Case? RAM? Budget? Are you aiming for performance, high OCs and looks or less noise, bit less performance and bit to bad looks?

Low budget option -> 212 Evo

Mid budget option -> Dark Rock 2/3

Mid-High budget option -> U14S, H60/80

High budget options -> D14, D15, PH-TC14PE, H100i etc.

Really high budget option -> Custom loop.
