Do AMD gpu works well with GTA V?

TheMidnightNarwhal

Its that significant?

yeah 1440x900 = 1296000 pixels where as 1920x1080 = 2073600

R9 290 here, running GTA5 at 1440p downsampled to 1080p. Everything on high/very high, no MSAA (don't need it with downsampling), runs like butter with average fps in the 60's+ (have to run vsync to kill the screen tearing). So yeah, it runs well on AMD GPUs. ;)

The thing with GTA5 is the vast range of graphics settings and advanced settings. It's easy to think you have it "turned down" when in fact you still have 1 or 2 options still turned on that can have a huge effect on performance. On mid to lower-end GPUs (regardless of AMD or Nvidia) it is strongly recommended that everything in the "advanced" graphics settings be turned off to significantly improve performance.

Yes AMD GPUs work great for GTA V.

You can't really help him if you don't know his specs or what driver he is using. But as a start you have to get him to update to the newest catalyst beta

Catalyst 15.4 Beta is the one he should be using for GTAV

My HD7950 (R9-280) @ 1100Mhz does a nice 50-60fps variable fps with Ultra spec 2xMSAA /w High shadows selected and no advanced options.

My 290 @ 1050Mhz does Full Ultra 2xMSAA without advanced options enabled and does 58-90fps, more minimum fps if I disable MSAA and use downsampling to 1440p as well.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

All review sites that did benchmarks for GTA 5 said both AMD and Nvidia did stellar jobs when it came to releasing drivers, both perform well. I have a 7970 and am very happy with my performance. I do intend to upgrade but that is more a reflection on the now old card rather then it not running well for how strong it is.

AMD drivers use to be bad, but from my experience they have been great with drivers and ones that have had problems were quickly addressed, I think the attitude towards AMD drivers sucking is a old one and while that may of been the case before they have more then earned my trust and I now shop for both AMD and Nvidia when upgrading. Waiting on the 300 series to see which brand I go.

HD7850 2GB and core i3 reporting in. beta 15.4 drivers.

I'm able to run the game at 1920x1080 at 40-45 solid FPS, FXAA on, no MSAA, every setting to "high" except textures. textures at "normal"  becuase when I set those to high, it goes past my 2GB video ram limit.

totally playable. 40-45 fps is a good middle ground, smoother than console and its good enough for a budget PC.

oh, my gpu is overclocked to about 1GHz and 1400mhz on the ram.

He is running at a resolution from 2006.

Actually he is running Xbox one resolution for that true console feeling, which also happens to be a resolution from 2006 :)

Ahh, I've never used 900p, I just assumed it was pretty close to 1080p.

It's 1440 x 900 not 1600 x 900.

Also, it's about 1.3 million pixels (1440x900) vs 2 million pixels (1920x1080)

FPS > Resolution.

I wouldn't run anything lower than this however xD

Same. On my Intel HD 4000 I go down to 720p to get 60 FPS ha ha ha...

800 x 600 master race.

I remember when games stopped supporting 640 x 480 and I was like, god, I'm going to have to upgrade my monitor!

So my buddy has an AMD card and his game freaks out even tho he has a decent one. He says it's the drivers. Is it true?

I've had a r9 270 for 2 years and a 970 for 2 months, I've had more driver issues with the 970 than the 270.

Solution? Update drivers or roll back to old ones, if that doesn't work, probably something else

He needs to use the SMAA launcher if he doesnt want artifacting but yeah amd cards perform well in my experience.

I'm getting tons of artifacting. Is there a guide for this or anything?

I get 45-60 FPS on 1680x1050.

Very High settings, like shadows, water, and other settings.

I don't have MSAA on and V Sync is on(can't stand screen tear).

Weird, I don't have artifacting on my 270X. The only thing I have is 15.4 drivers.
