G1 GTX 970 OC Numbers

Shaan5

I made a post about this yesterday but I only got 1 reply and I have since changed the OC Settings as well

Power: 112%

Core: +130

Memory: +300

No adjustments to the Voltage have been made

The Core boosts to 1510 Mhz with these settings

With these settings, My unigine Heaven AVG FPS went from 55 to 60.3, In Metro Last Light Redux, My FPS Went from 85 to 92, In Valley my FPS Went from 57.8 to 62.7.

While playing Metro Last Light, the temps capped at 71 Degrees which is kinda weird considering that while running Valley for an hour, the temps never went above 66 Degrees Celsius

I ran Valley for about an hour and there were no crashes or Artifacting as far as I could tell.

I probably could have pushed the Core and memory a bit higher but I wanted to play it Safe for now.

I'll Probably tweak the Card even higher sometime in the future when I build up the courage to unlock the Voltage control but this seems like a pretty Good setup for the time being. and The CPU has to be Overclocked as well

Thanks

lol yeah you're doing fine, idk what's up with that face video either.

Metro temps could do with being a couple of degrees lower if you're really being nit picky, but from what I've seen metro last light has some particularly demanding sections - I've not played it yet however. (Is it one of those title not properly optimised?)

Edit: right yeah I get it now, you've clearly got a G1 with a decent binned chip, and as such did well in the 'silicon lottery'

I ran the Valley benchmark for an hour or so and played Metro after so that explains the Temps I think, Its usually in the mid-low 60's even when Overclocked

Core should be able to do a bit better. My Strix can hit 1548MHz on the core 24/7 stable with a +300 offset on my memory... Or even a +500 offset. I know for one of my games that crashes OCs I did a +600 offset stable, but wouldn't recommend 8GHz effective 24/7. :P

Did you adjust Voltage?

Did you adjust Voltage?

Yeah. I only can do a +37 offset though. Think your allows +87, Nvidia locks down voltage like crazy so you'll be fine maxing that slider for 24/7 clocks.

I'll probably start messing with Voltage a little later in couple of months or so but I think my Settings should be good for now

Hey, one game you can't run a overclock on. GTA V. That game doesn't let any 970 do anything above stock unless something so little no fps gain.

If you have an OC on a 970 and play GTA V, Does it Crash or something?

Yeah, it does for liek 90% of 970s on GTA... GTA V all around hates overclocked gpus. Only game that doesn't like gpu overclocks that I know of. :)

I must be lucky.. mine works flawlessly @ 1542Hz (+150, and +300 mem). I didn't even know GTA V and 970 overclocking was an issue until now. :P

lucky, my drivers crash after like 2 hours... If I run a OC.

Yeah. It crashes with both 290X and 970 if I OC them.

@OP

That's a nice overclock. I was able to hit 1600 Mhz on the core with my 970 G1 and it seems to be stable in BF4, Valley and FireStrike, though not in GTA V.
