That's not very wise, switching from the Define R4. It's easily one of the best cases ever built.

 

 

The define r4 is a much nicer looking case.

Your dad is doing you a favour lol, just because something is "super cool and gaming with its fully hectic LED's" doesn't make it better. The r4 is a lot more quiet as well.

I mean the R4 is ok, but I have no window and there isn't as much room. The I/O light is actually pretty useful for me (I know Linus made a ghetto mod) and the only reason that you have or buy a reference GTX card is for aesthetics, right? I convinced him to let me buy it if I get straight A's and tidy up my room. I take all accelerated classes and double accelerated math so it's not the easiest thing in the world.

You can buy a window panel and there's plenty of room in an R4 lol.

If you do end up getting a new case and want to sell off the R4 i'd be interested depending on how much you were asking.

 

Also, something to be noted is your dad could be old fashioned and might hate the look of the NZXT cases (which I understand as im similar), due to how "gaming" they look as opposed to a professional workstation box like the r4

There's more room for cooling options. I can put more fans (which I plan on) in the front and top. My dad likes the looks (or understands that I do). I already looked all over for an R4 window but with no luck. I don't think that I'll sell the R4, always could use it for an HTPC.

I think he likes the attention. Nothing beats throwing qn Internet whinefest or tantrum(last time) when not getting your way.

Haha. Yes we can. :)   The powers of being a parent are pretty awesome. 

 

In fact, I've also temporarily taken away gift cards from my son because he was needlessly spending where I felt he shouldn't.  Some kids need to learn the value of the dollar, and spending it willy nilly is not how that's done.

I would but my dad says that it's not worth it because the equipment would already be half the cost of a new case and he doesn't want to deal with it. I may carbon-wrap my Noctis 450.

They know that I know what I'm doing. My dad thinks that a monitor that will ruin my gaming experience (needing to scale down to 1080p from 1440p resulting in a grainy image) will do something. Basically, he says that a case won't do anything for me. Apparently my ugly, black, unintuitive case that uses the same layout as a 2003 Dell PC is "cooler" and "better" than the NZXT N450. It totally doesn't not have an led lit I/O, PSU shroud, and better airflow. Definitely not the case.

Most people like the understatedness of it. Also windowed side panels are available separately I think.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Based on this, I could conclude that your dad is encouraging to spend money on things that would serve a purpose. You have a case that works more than fine, and there's no practical reason to replace it. A better quality microphone would serve a purpose than something sitting on the floor that you just want to look at because it has a window and isn't dull.

 

His "get a new case when you get a new graphics card" enforces this because he very likely recognizes that an upgraded video card would warrant a better case. 

 

 

What he's telling you is very pragmatic and rational, and I agree with him entirely.
