How to eat healthier?

MattTheMayor

Finally deciding to lose some weight.

I noticed I've been eating shitty. I really want to stop. I asked a lot of people and they just said "don't eat it". which is easier said than done.

any methods or tricks to stop me from eating junk?

Eat and drink as much mountain dew and doritos as you can afford. That's how I get my abs.

Drink a full glass of water before each meal - eat 5 small meals a day (will help speed up metabolism). Eat less fatty foods and more protein. Reduce sugar as much as possible. Stay active - reduce stress.

You just want to lose weight, or to get some muscle also ?

I'd advise you to do both, but first, you need to know how your body works, your metabolism. I know you have you have a friend that can eat what he wants, when he wants, and that he's skinny. That's his metabolism: he naturally consumes more calories than he absorbs.

You have to know your metabolism if you want to lose weight and get some muscle efficiently.

Here are some advice:

- You must eat at fixed times. 7Am, 12Am, 4-5PM, 7-8PM. Your body needs regular food inputs, and by being regular, you educate it.

- You must have a good breakfist. The reason why "the breakfist is the most important meal" is because you break the night's fasting (I hope this is the good translation). If you don't eat when you wake up, then your body will enable its "survival mode", meaning once you'll eat, it will store all the fat.

- That's why you'll understand this advice easily: never skip a meal.

- You don't need to starve to lose weight; this is a bad idea. You need to define an objective, and once this is done, then you can adapt which kind of food you'll need.

Here is a typical day for me:

- 7:20 AM breakfist: oatmeal, cottage cheese, honey and sometimes a fruit. Sugar is essential to break the night's fasting. But not "white sugar", natural sugar. You got it by eating cereals, milk, and honey. Honey is life. One glass of orange juice = one fruit.

- 10AM: a fruit. Like an apple or something.

- 12AM: eggs, or a lean meat (chicken, turkey, or 5% fat beef meat), then 150-200g of cooked rice/ pasta/potatoe, 200g (at least) of vegetables. Be careful, some vegetables aren't vegetables. Like lentils, quinoa, red beans. If you eat those, then you don't need to eat rice and so on.

- 4PM: banana + cottage cheese + nuts. 7 nuts is essential.

- 6PM: 40-60 minutes of workout.

- 7PM: last meal. If you feel weak after your workout, then you can eat some rice/pasta/potatoe. If you don't, just eat a lean fish, and 200g of vegetables. Salmon isn't a lean fish, but its fat contains essential oils for us (omega 3).

Most important: this is not a diet, this is a lifestyle. With all the foods you can get, whenever you want, you have to educate yourself to be healthy. However, one day or two during the week, you can relax a bit, get a pizza with some friends. But you don't have to see this cheat meal as a reward, otherwise you'll just be frustrated until you get that pizza. That's not what you want. Also, never cook with too much oil, you must avoid any source of unatural fat in your food, because you'll get what you need in the meal itself.

Don't think about "omg 1700 kcal, but this site says 2000 kcal", think about what you want to do. If you want to be skinny, then reduce what you eat, but never starve. If you want to be thin with muscles, then you'll need to eat more meat (always lean) and more starchy food.

Last but not least:

- protein: you need these to "construct" your muscles. But be careful: if you aborb too much of them, your body will transform them into fat.

- lipids: you have tons of lipids source, but some of them are nasty for you. Here are some examples of "good lipids": nuts, olive oil, salmon, chicken.

- glucids (carbohydrate): you need them to have energy. Without glucids, you won't be efficient during your workout. Same as above, some of them are nasty, like white sugar, here are the good glucids sources: fruits (obvious), starchy food.

- easy one: DRINK WATER, WATER ONLY.

Finally: calories are calories, no matter where they come from. If you don't eat a Snickers but 5 apples instead, you'll get the same amount of energy (glucids). Yes, the fruit is better because it doesn't bring glucids only, but if you give 500 extra kcalories to your body that you won't spent, then it will become fat. Don't forget that.

Good luck !

Simply limit calorie intake, lower it I mean.

Used to eat 2500,, now I try to limit to 2000.

Lost 5kg in 2 months. Slow and steady wins the race.

Remember that workout is the best way to lose weight, just eating healthy isn't nearly as effective.

-a lot of wise text-

i completely agree with you, its about being healthier.

im a beginning triathlete, and eating healthy can make so much difference.

some people i know just stuff their face with Coke and french fries, and feel good for a second, but eat healty, and excercise(with someone that knows what he/she is doing) will make you feel much better,

if you dont have the power to eat properly, then i guess its time to rethink your discipline.

i wouldent go for regular cereal though, just oatmeal.

stay away from sugary drinks and fast food, also if you drink beer (don't see your age) try to stay away from it, at least that's what i did (am still doing)

it will be hard in the beginning ant you'll crave for some fast food but after a while (few weeks mostly) those cravings start to fade and you'll replace the fast food for something healthier like vegetables or fruit.

also something that could really help you is someone who also wants to lose some weight, it keeps the motivation up!

So so so wrong. Diet is 70% of the job.... Exercise helps but diet is the main thing.

well. in theory you can do without exercise, but if you eat crap, you wont loose weight, youll gain a bit of muscle mass at best, if you eat healthy, you might loose weight, but exercise helps with that
