Help me pick a mobo?

Go to solution Solved by ForsakenLive,

@ @ForsakenLive @Stijncat @bob345 @Dabasepc

I apologize for the confusion, Amazon has faulty information on their page for this CPU (see below)

I was recommended this by someone else here on a different post. Is this still a good mobo, or should I go with a z97 or whatever you guys are saying?

Thanks for all the quick help though.

That's confusing :S

However it looks like it's an i5 4440, so it should be 1150.

The motherboard you got recommended works fine, but lacks the USB 3.0 Headers for the front panel on the case.

This one is good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128762&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Hi,

You guys have been great in the past for helping me pick parts, so I hope you can help again. I was told to get an i5-4440 CPU which is LGA 1155, but was given a LGA 1150 mobo. I can't seem to find a good 1155 mobo, or pick one out from the rest at least. I need...

  • USB 3.0
  • HDMI
  • Support for a GTX 970 GPU and 1 PCI-Express
  • 6.0Gbps SATA
  • At least 2 RAM slots (duh)
  • 2x fan ports + CPU fan
  • A good BIOS

I honestly can't tell them apart, so I'm sorry for asking you guys for this. My price range is about $50-90 probably.

Thanks so much!

-Chris

you need a 1150 motherboard. An 1155 socket is totally incompatible with that cpu. 1155 boards are meant for ivybridge and older cpu's. What was the 1150 board that you where given?

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

All of the things that you require are just standards today. REmember also that you don't use the HDMI ports on your mobo. If you do that, you'll be using your integrated CPU.

So because every Z97 mobo (You don't need Z97, but it would be smart) has all these things, it depends on what size you want it, and which one looks better and his nice extra touches for you.

Take a look at ASUS, MSI, Asrock and Gigabyte. The 4 biggest in the mobo business IMO.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

alot of h97 boards are very similiarly priced to z97 ones, z97 would provide a better upgrade path to a broadwell unlocked i7 if and when needed

CPU-i5 4690k 4.4ghz @ 1.190V, MOBO-MSI z97 gaming 3, Cooler-hyper 212 evo, GPU- r9 290x asus directcuII (-37Mv), Storage-120gb v300(switching soon), 1tb caviar blue, CASE-Red/black h440, PSU-Antec TPC 650.

If OP was was going to upgrade CPUs in the future it would probably be to a skylane chip, which would require a new socket (1551) anyway and therefore a new mobo.

no need for a z97 board unless you plan on overclocking using a k series chip. the motherboard you listed should work fine. Amazon needs to fix that haha.

That one looks great, besides the fact it only has 1 CPU fan and 1 System fan port (my case comes with two fans). Know of any others, or should I just buy a fan splitter?

EDIT: @bob345 you know any either?

EDIT 2: I just decided to go with that. Everything about it looks great, and I can just get a splitter for the two fans. There was a limited deal on NewEgg so after MIR it'll be about $40 (which is awesome!). Thanks for all the help guys.
