Nah.. Wait for the 300 series and then compare the performance to the TI. the r9 280x and 285 performance are on par or better with the current 960, so the next line of Radeon cards should bring higher performance. But if you're an Nvidia guy, I guess so, but it would be worth putting more money in for a 970.

 junker build in the making

@TheGeeker

I personally wouldn't wait. Technology is always advancing and like there's always new stuff coming out.

Buy a 290 if you're concerned.

I don't get all of the 900 series TI hype. It's very unlikely to come out as covered by so many people, explaining why it doesn't make sense to have a TI version. Of course, the possibility is there, but there's no use talking about it since nothing has been confirmed. Not to mention that the article you linked is 3 months old and doesn't really have any weight to it.

I've learned something about building new computers, that is it's almost no use waiting on new things to come out. Computer parts are renewed very often, which means they're almost never "new". Just go with the latest and see if there's any deal you can find. Otherwise, wait until black friday season, because the parts are cheapest.

If they sell it for $240 AMD will have to sell the 280X for $200.

I might just have a X60 ti yet :)

Might be worth the title "Final Upgrade of the p5K pro"

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

No.

General performance is handed over to the GTX 960. The R9 280 in most, if not all 1080p benchmarks falls behind the 960 and R9 285. Unless you're running a 4K monitor, you will not see any VRAM limitations.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Does it matter which 960 and which 280 we are talking about. Surely the asus strix 960 and 280 would do better than some.

Generally all 960 cards perform the same on stock settings, as with the 280. Some cards may have better overclocking headroom, however.

Again,  the gaming world seems to be divided into three categories.

1. those who play games today and enjoy them today.

2. those who aren't playing today because they are waiting to see if tomorrows cards are better

3. those still using integrated because they are poor (not a dig, just reality I was once poor too)

remember when: "wait for the 9000 series it'll be better", "wait for the 800 series, it'll kick arse", "wait for haswell", "wait for...", "wait..." "wait..."  "Wait..."

That's an awful lot of waiting.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm quite sure it will be out after r9 300 release. I think the 960 is too weak for its price, and the 970 memory "feature" doesn't look good for its price as well especially for a guy like me that buys a gpu once in 5 years.

That's why we wait for it.. Cause we don't upgrade every year like most of you.

Will cost more.

Just an un-gimped 960

If priced right would be the best budget card for 1080p on high.

So many gimps this series 960, 970 and titan x.... Cant wait for the 950 with a 24bit-memory bus.

960 is not a gimped card.

Titan-X gimped?
