Best performing one is 9590, but gets beat by things much lower price than it. I would avoid AMD for anything past $150.

However, if you are in a budget under $150 for a CPU, then it has great offerings on it's APUs and low end stuff like FX6300

Depends on what you want to do with it. Technically it's the FX 9590, but its decent multithreaded performance is let down by its terrible IPC and power consumption and heat output.

As far as AMD goes, you're better off waiting for Zen to see if they offer anything interesting, and in the meantime sticking to Intel unless you're doing heavily multithreaded tasks.

I haven't done anything with AMD in my past. I just have a quick question. Whats the best preforming AMD cpu?

Thanks in advance.

Strictly best performing is the FX 9590, but you don't want that CPU.

The FX 8350 would be better buy, but still not good for gaming.

You have to spend more on motherboard and stuff and the per core performance is not as good as Intel CPU's

"Not good for gaming" - Sigh

The FX 6300, 8320, and 8350 are all reasonably sensible purchases at their price points.  They do just fine in most gaming applications, don't be fooled by what people say.  If you're looking to go high end performance gaming I'd direct you to the 4690k from Intel, but that is significantly more expensive.

the best is the 9590, and its a POS that nobody should buy

the AMD CPUs that are actually decent/worth it are the 8350 and 8320

the 8350 is just an overclocked 8320, so if you plan on OCing yourself save some money and get a 8320

never buy any of the FX9xxx CPUs

you guys are on top of it! thanks. It would be for a build for my dad he wants to get into gaming at 1080p nothing higher and he does a lot of HD video editing.

do you have a budget, i think the main thing nowadays is the m/boards, or lack of choice as there isn't that many good ones to support the FX. for sure pick a 990FX chipset board if you go AMD route.

a min would be a 6 core FX6300 linked upto a couple of gpu's in crossfire or one good card that matches the cpu. its all about matching the components that work well together, and if going AMD i would go all the way, CPU / RAM / GPU

8 core is a good choice to (must get a good aftermarket cooler so is cool and quiet. so yeah the FX8350 or 8370 now. is good enough if you want an AMD build.

for tops i would look at a 3gig edition R9 280 or a 270x 4 gig edition, see how it goes and if you need in the future you can always crossfire. or even a slightly cheaper top end R7 card but 2 of them.

i think you want a min of 3 gigs in total of onboard graphics memory if not 4 gig.

Intel is more futureproof but AMD is still an option. my AMD rig runs sweet and no problems, saying that in the middle of a custom built from scratch m-itx intel 1150 build. but i will still keep the old AMD girl around, she's still running good.

got to love Asus components
