Get a 970, it's more "future proof" with 4GB of VRAM.

BTW it's my 100th post  :D

Don't buy a GTX 980, it's overpriced! Buy 2 GTX 970s or 2 R9 290s intstead (the R9 290s would even be cheaper)

Jesus these AU prices make me cringe, but go for a 970 obviously, if you can afford it.

What are you playing? That's important. If you are playing games like league, minecraft, or tf2, I would say 960. If you play games like BF3/4 then the 970.

Unless you are gaming at less than 1080p. Then 960.

If you are gaming at greater than 1080p, the 970.

It's not that bad.

The 970  is 479 AUD which is equvilent to 247 GBP.

In the UK a 970 costs 274 GBP.

So £27 cheaper, not much  :P

Comparing prices between 2 countries is entirely different.

While AUS might be cheaper for where you live, it might actually be extremely expensive where he lives because of the amount he gets paid. There's a reason why Australians complain that Australia is expensive.

For a 26% difference in price you get 50% more performance with the 970. Seems like a no-brainer if you're willing to spend the extra $100.

I don't consider a 970 expensive, they're about 350 Euros average here, which converted to USD would be around 450-500 aswell. But I doubt that they're 450-500 usd in america.
