so i think its funny how one of the most popular computer part reviewers on the internet gets a blank in the silicon lottery. it kinda sucks, i would be super pissed if i had that card and it was a crappy overclocker

at least you know theyre not giving reviewers binned cards to fake performance...

What monitor is that? Is that the 144Hz IPS?

 

EDIT nvm, Just a 60Hz Acer that looks similar

Pretty sure I have the only 970 in the world that can't go over 1500. Whatever, still a good card.

It does happen. You cant win all the time. His card was just not that great. Didnt even beat my strix.

or its a ploy by the gpu guys to make us think that they don;'t seed reviewers with binned cards. Send one bad one on porpouse every now and then while the rest of the time they are top binned chips xD

To be honest this is less of "crap card" issue and more the average limit of the majority of 980's.  Most people seem to get between 1500 MHz-1600MHz on air, regardless of whether or not they buy these more expensive "overclocking cards".  If you go look at the 3D Mark Benchmark charts https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TycvqdkYByBGU45OlICNLDTDHY22fqSMEiZb_0M9l64/edit?pli=1#gid=672917501 most 980's are getting a ~1400 MHz core clock which translates into a ~1500 MHz boost clock.
