Can this guy be saved? HD 6990 Glitch

Hi guys,

I was looking at a 6990 Club3D edition which i might buy. The guy is selling it for 43$ USD only.

However, there is a problem with it, as you can see below.

So my question is, can this be fixed? Is there anything I can do here? Or is it just a waste of money? (I really like HD 6990 :-D)

Good for you lol, but 43$ is REALLY freaking cheap :-D IHD 6990 performs like 770 GTX I think. It's pretty awesome, and I just want this one xD

Just really wondering what is causing this glitch and some artifacts. I heard I could bake it in the oven (which I've tried, and it works) but what is the main reason for this?

Is there just some part that can be replaced?

Artifacts can be caused by a bad OC, or simply the GPU is dying.

It's probably the latter. But can it be fixed?

If it's dying, then I don't think so, no.

You could try the oven trick to reflow the solder but this is not guaranteed to work.

for 43$ I would buy that either way it because even a dead dual gpu card looks awesome.

I tried this with my old 8800GTX, which is still working, I have it in a multimedia setup in the living room

All below at stock settings

CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9450

GPU: XFX 8800 GTX 768MB

Mobo: Some XFX Mobo (high tier at the time)

HDD: 2x 300GB Hitachi 5.25" drives

PSU: 500W Xilience power supply. (added a 2x molex -> 6pin PCI-E adapter to gpu :-P)

the PC is connected to a Phillips 42" Screen, which luckily has a VGA socket.

So I could do a DVI->VGA Conversion and connect the video that way, and connect the audio through a doublesided jackstick :-D

The image looks a bit blurry, but does run 1080p @60Hz :-D

So I hooked up a Logitech Rumblepad 2 to via USB cable, and can play Dragon Age Origins, using Xpadder, while laying on the couch, at a save distance :-D haha.

So back to topic, the card has been "baked" twice, and still works. the period between the baking was about 6 months. Still seems to work now, at GPU temps up to 90'C in there.

GPU is kill. My mate had a similar issue with his 6950 seems to be a common theme on LTT that the 6XXX series seems to be wonky.

I'd say it's not worth it, I could only assume that the seller has probably tried to fix it without success.

But if you fancy a challenge... Do it!
