There’s a difference between what you describe, and disregarding certain emotions altogether.

Not allowing emotion to influence your decision is just that. To disregard emotion is to not feel them at all.

Bit more of an update into my teardown of the server (those memory modules are a pain to remove, so I'm not going to post a picture of the Xeons).

(Warning: fairly large album, mainly for @Strando123 since you like it so much :P)

Spoiler

Yup, that's DDR (from what I can remember, 4GB worth)

And of a module (mmm... ECC DDR goodness)

Apparently 10GB, if the startup log is anything to go by (when I fully "clean" it [no compressed air :/], I'll check Memory Bank 1).

Erm, I would, but looking at the top panel, it seems as if the processor and the heatsink is one assembly...

Pre-posting edit: Yes. It is all one assembly.

Spoiler

It says so on the rear top cover:
IMG_7281.JPG

The socket and processor (gotta love PGA!)

IMG_7280.JPG

It is attached to the heatsink with some plastic clips and if the cracking sound the memory bays make when you pop them out... I don't want to break them (seems like these Xeons may be expensive!)

Not with just over 146GB on SCSI it won't! It's also loud... like... really loud (almost like my main PC last year when it was air-frying itself because of Lenovo's ridiculous design!)

I'm going to fire it up tomorrow and start pulling fans, since I'm working on an overview of it for my new YouTube channel for my photography (basically, the Minecraft server I've grudgingly hosted for the past few years, some files and my website will all be transferred across onto something like Windows XP or Server 2003... Windows Server 2016 only supports x64 architecture).

Ehhh thats a bit concerning actually, i have had serveres from 2002 that actually died because og old thermal compound and 24/7 ooeration (cpu and socket had black/brown burn marks on them) And old xeons in matched pairs are pricy, my z600 has a set of matched x5679 xeons they fetch around 250-300$ (usd) if sold together but yo would struggle to get 100$ per cpu if you sold them separately. (usualy unmatched cpus are fine but some server programs/OS's require a matched pair to run as efficiently as possible)
