Mixing different latency RAM kits.

Go to solution Solved by Tedster,

You should be fine.  You might not be able to run them both at full speed but you should still be fine.

I'm running some weird semibranded memory (16GB) then 8GB Corsair Vengeance with no problems, but only at 1333Mhz.

Hi all, recently I was given a 16GB set of corsair vengeance DDR3 to go with my current 8GB kit, however the latency is different on both kits.

Will I be able to combine the two with relative stability, or should I only use the 16GB set?

16GB here:

Sig under construction.

It will usually run at the speed of the slowest kit OR default to a very failsafe 1333/1600 11-11-11-30 timing.

Then you can configure it manually, but it should work.

mix it. the board don't give a rat's butt.

just make sure to duel channel properly.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Okay, thanks everyone. I should be fine anyway considering one stick of the 8GB kit refuses to go over 1600Mhz, so they'll likely be stuck at the current speed then.  :)
