WiFi Card - PCI-E 1x In PCI 16x Slot Work?

Pommy192

My friends needs a WiFi card and he has a PCI slot (not e) spare at the bottom.

The WiFi card I have found is a PCIe one and I don't think it would work in a PCI slot, would it?

The 1x slot on his motherboard is blocked by his GPU.

yes you can put 1x cards in 16x slots

the card just needs to be equal or less than the slot

EDIT- my bad i thought you were only talking about x1 and x16

you cant put a PCIe card in a PCI slot, or the other way around

they both need to be the same kind of slot

No, it does not work. PCIe and PCI are physically and electrically different.

yes

Yes, what? If you're saying it'll work, it won't.

The OP probably meant PCIe x16. Many newcomers to PC building don't know the difference.

Yeh, I guessed so. So He'll have to get a PCI card. I know PCI-E is backwards compatible, just didn't know about PCI.

Just checking!

The second slot is blocked by the graphics card.

Ooooh....

I stand corrected. I only looked at the specs page, which the OP linked. Thought I saw 2 x PCIe x16.
