Anti Virus and Malware Programs

So year subscription to Norton360 is almost done and I was wondering if there are any other programs that are just as good if not better. If not I'll just keep with it.

Avast free antivirus, go for a free a virus, norton slows down your pc

Also malware bytes is good

I've always had malwarebytes and common sense, but just for something lightweight and added security, since I've stared doing more banking, etc, on my rig, I have Malwarebytes + Bitdefender Free + Common sense. Great combo.

Don't believe the people peddling that outdated info about Norton slowing down your computer.

It's BS, I've had a paid subscription to Norton Internet Security on my i3-laptop (and all are other three PC's) for 3 years and it doesn't slow down jack. 

Didn't feel the need to get Norton 360 though.

 

I'm going with Bitdefender Internet Security in July because I can get it for really cheap through my school.

It's really good and should be a great combo with Malwarebytes. 

 

So I'd say Bitdefender or Norton Internet Security + Malwarebytes. Whichever combination you can get for less.

AVG + Malwarebytes combo is my go to setup. Avast works well too. All are free, well respected, and updated against new threats regularly.

It also won't hurt to upgrade to the latest version of "Safe Browsing Habits 2015" if you haven't already.

Windows Defender and making sure you didn't disable the whole "This program is going to make changes to your computer, are you sure?" prompt, and not getting fooled, are perfectly sufficient these days.

I think we really need a sticky on this, or recommend software in general.  I feel like this question is asked too much, and I'm getting tired of seeing it.

 

That aside:

 

For free AV you should either get Avira or Bitdefender.  Bitdefender is more lightweight, but it doesn't give you many options in terms of control or how it works.

 

If you want a paid one then either Bitdefender or Kaspersky.  I would probably go with Kaspersky just for the fact that their team has found a lot of security issues in the past.  You can also check out AVTEST, a third-party company that rates AVs.  (Bitdefender and Kaspersky are the top 2)
