The Chroma has brighter colours than the K70 and their software is much more user friendly than Corsair's.   Corsair's is complex and hard to learn, but is much more powerful once you figure it out.   But the K70 RGB is having a number of issues - it currently can only display 512 colours, can have trouble working with steam, lockups, slow boot times etc.  Not all users are experiencing the latter issues mind you,   and the lack of 16.8 million colours according to Corsair will be fixed in the next firmware update due around the end of April.

The K70 RGB while not as bright as the Chroma, has a lot of "spill" or light flooding out from under the keys as they are raised and not fenced in with an edge like most keyboards.  This lets you see the lights better (although some colours may "run" together) - with the Chroma it is really only bright if you lean forward and look almost straight down on it.

I just bought and returned the Chroma the next day, because of their deceptive hook.  You CANNOT program the keyboard unless you first create a Razer account and then every time you turn on the computer, it requires you to log in to Razer's server.  if you do not log in every time (or select "STAY LOGGED IN" and then it is always "on"), you will not be able to program the board.  If you go into "offline" mode and reboot your system, your  custom settings disappear until you log back in to their servers.   It stores your customization on their servers, not your computer or inside the keyboard.  Much more concerning to me was the EULA which states:

“User Generated Information” means any information made available to Razer through your use of the Software. Subject to the Privacy Policy mentioned above, you expressly grant Razer the complete and irrevocable right to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, broadcast, and otherwise communicate, and publicly display and perform the User Generated Information and derivative works thereof in any form, anywhere, with or without attribution to you, and without any notice or compensation to you of any kind.

By using Razer Synapse 2.0 (“Synapse”), the Subscriber agrees that Razer may collect aggregate information, individual information, and personally identifiable information. Razer may share aggregate information and individual information with other parties. Razer shall not share personally identifiable information with other parties, except as described in the policy below.

This is very disturbing to me and is a deal breaker.  Their keyboard felt like good quality, and the keys were nice and clicky (Chinese version of Cherry MX Blues), but that monitoring of my keystrokes is intolerable.  Also if you take your board to someone else's house, they MUST install Synapse and have it spy on them while you log in to Razer and activate your custom colour settings in order to show off your board/customization.  No where on the box does it state you need to connect to the internet to use the features you just paid $200 for.

If you like clicky keys though you go with Razer.  Corsair does not make Cherry MX Blues in RGB any more.  Only MX Reds and Browns.

The Corsair also has dedicated multimedia keys, volume wheel and mute button, while with the Razer you have to hit "FN" key and then one of the corresponding "F" keys to get those features.

Also the Chroma has a USB pass-through port and the Corsair does not.

And  the number keys along the top - many people have been complaining that the K70 RGB has the top symbols (ie @#$% etc) dimmer than the numbers on the bottom of the same key.  However with the Chroma the numbers are lit and the symbols above it are completely black - no light whatsoever.  You must either really make sure you memorize the top row, or look carefully at it when you want to type on it.

Ideally you should go to a store and try out both keyboards to see which you like best.  I have the "old" K70 non-rgb with MX Reds and love it.  Now I will probably go to the K70 RGB with Browns once Corsair irons out all the bugs/problems.

Check out Corsairs forums to see what kind of problems people are reporting - but bear in mind most people who are happy do not crow about it, so you will mostly see complaining in these forums.   Whatever you buy make sure you don't mail order it so it costs you nothing to return it if you are not happy with it.

The Blackwidow has Kailh switches so of course the Corsair gets my vote. Good luck finding any in stock though.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Ahh. Set it to vote ONLY if you have bought the keyboard. Don't take in people that haven't even had either keyboard vote in this.

Main points for Razer: Simple Software. Very vibrant colors. Blue simulated switches.

Main points for Corsiar: Very customizable software. Soft less disturbing lights. Red and Brown switches (Although loud).

Sound: Custom one pros, Audioengine A5+ with S8 sub.

K70 RGB
