labroslol

You will have to reinstall.  Even if the data is still there the OS needs to know that the game is 'installed' by having keys in the registry.  Unless you are just doing an upgrade vs fresh install.  If it's just an upgrade install of Win 8 then it should recognize all you old programs.

Try moving all the games onto a separate folder. IE: Copy and paste from the steam folder and paste them into a folder called games. Then Reinstall steam and point the games where they should be.

If you keep the steam.exe and the steamapps folder... they are all you need.

Then move them whereever, and doubleclick steam.exe it does it all for you... games and all.

I have all my games in a SteamLibrary folder, and I moved the drive to a new computer, and then I just added the folder to my library in Steam settings. As long as it's Steam and you store it in a seperate folder from your steam installation it should work fine.

As long as steam is pointed to the correct location yes, you are correct.  Steam will reinstall for you, but won't have to download anything.

It's also a nice way to move your steam library to a new storage drive.

If you're using Steam and keep the Steam folder on the HDD, it'll fix itself when you try to launch Steam.exe. I'm not sure about Origin and Uplay...

I recently got an SSD for my games only, copied the steam folder to that SSD. Steam fixed it's installation once I launched it. The games I had the files for showed up as installed in the Steam library and performed the first time setup when I launched them.
