Hey guys

This is my first build, so please bare in mind i'm willing to OC but having never done it before worried about it.

I want to use this pc for gaming on things like BF4 and the new Assassins creed.

in 2015 is an I3 4160 dual core still a good choice??? I have £500 to spend on the system including a montior

Here are the two builds i came up with

1) AMD

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Kj8kyc

2) Intel

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/cJ6VRB

Which would be best, or would anyone suggest a better one???

The reason i fall more AMD is its a quad core, my original plan was build a cheap AMD this year then when Skylake comes out get a new mobo and cpu to replace the AMD, i don't really want to be changing CPU in 6 months.

The intel build looks great :)

TECHNICALLY the i3 is a quad core.

HOLY JESUS WHY DO YOU HAVE A Z97 WITH AN I3 @karl0508

For a gaming pc, the intel is better. Technically, you'll get better fps in most cases with the amd build, as you can run the cpu and gpu in crossfire of sorts giving you more graphics horse power, but what you can do is go with the intel build, and start saving up cash. As soon as you have a bit saved up go get a better graphics card.

The intel build has an upgrade path later on, w/o much hassle.

The amd build doesn't have much of an upgrade path w/o major changes.

I have a i3 with a Z77 mobo... Same thing essentially eh?

Speaking of, I have a 3220, and it performs well and bottlenecks a 770 @ 80FPS on Battlefield.

I suppose it gives you and him an awesome upgrade path but it looks like he could save money and get a better GPU..

???

860k has no iGPU, so no he cannot...

@karl0508 yes the Haswell i3's are very good for gaming.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

I would switch the i3 for a G2358, which could leave room for a 270/x maybeee?

No.

Just no.

Yeah, It was suppose to have a i7 in it, but the i3 is surpisingly good...

Also i bought my second GPU (770) a year after i made the base system :P

The 7750 held out well ish. But the 770 is where the shiz is at :P

Would the i3 be the best performer in newer game even though everything's going quad?

I beleive Intel is better then AMD At this price point, so i think its a good idea to go with the i3.

So the problem i have is do i go AMD and overclock?? Or do i go intel?? to be honest i've never pc gamed and thought that if i do and don't like it the AMD would be a better chip for other things as its quad core

Go intel as the i3 has hyper threading so is considered a quad core.

And the single core performance that intel has compared to AMD is ridiculous..

It so confusing lol

I just wanted a decent pc to game, some people suggested the A10 then the 860k and now i3

What do you mean considered a quad core?

Out of the two yes, but something like an i5 will definitely be better a lot of the time, especially with high end (290(x)/970 and up) GPU's (with low end GPU's like 260x/270 you probably won't notice the difference between an i3 and i5, not 100% sure though).

According to the Steam Hardware Survey for 2015, 48% of their users are on dual cores, so I doubt they'll be phasing out soon.
