Just a debate. Is the 960 a good choice for the $200 price range or is there a better card? Basically 960, 280

The 960 is a great choice. I think it's perfectly priced between the R9 280 and the 280X. And it also performs like something between them, while beeing even cooler and quieter.

Go amd side for tgis price range. 960 isnt bad. We just expected more. A 280x is better and cheaper. Hell save for s 290 on sale if you can.

I do not know where you live, but in Germany the 280X is around 30€ more expensive than the 960.

R9 280/280X is a better choice.

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

The 960 is a great card, and its better than the 280 and ALMOST as good as the 280x which is more expensive.  But you can OC the 960 more because of its lower heat signature than the 280/280x which are like all AMD products notorious for their heat.

Right now 960 is only very slightly ahead of the 280 in most games, but in games with very high-res textures and many future AAA titles, the 280 will pull ahead as the 960 hits its 2GB VRAM limit.

280/280X are better choices if you wish to keep your PC for a while. Even at 1080p, 960 will suffer in the long run.

There are 4gb versions of the 960 coming out.  And yes, they will have full speed access to all 4 gigs.

4GB is too much and 2GB is not enough... that's why AMD currently has the sweet spot. Not to mention the 4GB version will cost a lot more, as it did with the 4GB 760.

I am waiting to get the GTX 960, only because I have not enough power to have a amd card. The 960 in my case will be perfect for my 400 watt system and will run great. Right now im overclocking my videocard because i think I can get a bit more on it and hopes by the time it dies I will get a cheaper 960. - My life story

The 280 will run if the PSU is 80+ at least. 400W is quite a bit of juice.

It all depends on the rest of the system.  400W is actually very little for a gaming pc.  A family PC, sure, with integrated graphics and low power cpu, but gaming? No.

My computer uses just under 380W at max load from the wall. (With everything overclocked)

AMD is a much better choice.

For the price, the 960 is a complete and total freaking joke.

Give credit where credit is due.

If starting from scratch, the gtx960 lets you...

- get away with a slightly cheaper/lower wattage PSU.

- generate less heat, important if you live in a hot place or have a small casing.

- uses less power, when you're trying to cut down bills, every cent counts.

But get the 280x if you..

- need anything more than 1080p FHD/WUXGA

- already have a beefy psu and/or doesn't worry about power/heat output

- live in a country where AMD have aggressive pricing

- or willing to spend a bit more money for a bit more performance if AMD doesn't have nice deals in your country.

As for 280, I didn't do enough research, basically what I read is a slower card that perform less but uses more power. Not my cup of tea. and the 285 cost more.
