I am at Gcse level and my teacher told us to build a pc out of cardboard boxes and stuff for homework. I asked her what was the point and she said 'to help you understand how a pc goes together'. So what do you think about this

other than languages and math ive actually had alot of teachers who i went in knowing more than they did but they had like crazy impressive degrees from liverpool.

 I had a nearly identical task in Year 8. I ended up bring in my 386, setting it up (installing all of the parts included), installing DOS, installing windows 3.1, then the drivers, opening up a few programs and saying "is that good enough for you miss?"

GCSE IT is nothing.

 

Just do as you're asked so you get to put it on your CV. It'll prove you can take instructions and remember them. I did a GNVQ and we had to learn how to write memos and business style letters.

 

My port folio was so technical that I was accused of letting my parents do my work and I actually got penalised, so ended up with a pass rather than a distinction. Because of that, though, I learnt the valuable lesson of doing what is appropriate for each situation, rather than hoping to impress 100% of the people I interact with.

 I just had another idea, go down to your local tip and make a computer from the old bits you find, it won't risk your good rig, and you'll probably be able to actually get some working parts as well (found a gt 610 recently-works perfectly).

Nice, I might do that for my i5 rig. The amount of shit its given me, it doesn't deserve a case unlike my old rigs (14+ years with zero issues compared to 12 months of constant problems).

Also, what type of CPU does that have? Because I'd hazard a guess at a 386-486 judging by the ISA slots, which are abundant on my 386.
