I don't want to buy a water cooler because it is too expensive and would hope for a air cooler. I am building in Cooler Master's CM Storm Stryker XL-ATX Case and i am using intel core i7 4790K Processor. I have a 50 £/ 75$ /95 CAD budget Please help me gnaby2

Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) For that budget, you can buy mostly any fancy air cooler. Try to look at the ones from Noctua, be quiet!, Cooler Master. Posted March 3, 2015 The 4790k has major heat problems due to the IHS making poor dollar-store thermal contact with the die. 240mm water cooling is your best option in my experience; everything else might as well be pissing in the wind. If had to stick to your budget a 120mm good All-In-One water cooler would work; just make sure you get a good thermal paste application and then I would suggest custom bios tweaking to see if you can lower the ridiculously high stock voltage to further lower thermals. Posted March 4, 2015 Gnaby the V8 air cooler is not considerd a super cooler. Installed a Nocuta NH-D14 on a Rampage 4 Black Edition, I 7 4930K. Testing software 1 hour Intel Burn Test, OCCT Line Pack, AIDA64 for temps and stress. 24 Hour Testing Software for stability Prime 95. I 7 4930K runs hot. 6 Core CPU. Did not get a Golden Chip but a common chip according to the Bin Number. NH-D14, Pricy yes. Warranty and tech support top shelf. Ordered a NH-D14 the radiators on the NH-D14 was slightly curved. Had to import the NH-D14, Noctua replaced the NH-D14 No Charge, Following FREE, Shipping, Import Tax, 1 Extra Tube of Thermal Compound provided 2 tubes, Modified clips for the NH-D 15 fans to fit the NH-D14 Heat Sink, My cost nothing. The original NH-D14 Noctua said keep it. Note cannot sell it. That is what I call customer service top shelf period. 100 Percent customer satisfaction. No Non Since took 2 emails, no pictures & one week later heat sink was delivered half way around the world. Easy to install, Considered a super cooler, Very quiet, Performance is excellent and Tech Support Top Shelf. Pricy yes, Not when you consider the support, and life span of the cooler. Like the no Non Since support. Gnaby will a V-8 Do this? Answer "No" your choice your money. Has the NH-D14 been modified or the I 7 4930 K "NO". Stock out of the box for a LGA 2011 PWM Fans only with the LGA 2011 model. Could Modify and get 1.46v on Air have also have a Haswell with Mods 4.98 On Air 24/7 at 92c 1 hour & 24 hour stress test. Liquid cool don't waste your time with over the shelf systems. Do a custom Liquid Build and be happier in the long run and you can add on to a custom loop or do air. I 7 4930K Base Clock 100 x 45 Per Core = 4.5 GHz, Hyper Threading Enabled. BIOS V Core setting 1.296v, VID 1.221 Rock Solid Stable. 4.5 Ghz 24/7 Ambient Air Temperature 29c, Humidity 47% Proof Is In The Pudding Have a Nice Day LarryA
 Not all I7 4790K have poor dollar store thermal contact. Depends on the BIN number. Needs to be tested for over clocking and temperatures verified prior to any modifications. Keep this in mind. i7 4770k Intel Haswell processor. At 4.3GHz this processor is running the same or better than Sandy Bridge @ 4700MHz and at 4800 the Haswell is running better than Sandy Bridge @ 5300MHz. I 7 4770K on air with a bad chip will clock up 4.0 Ghz if the I 7 4770K requires modification then you can clock up to 4.8 Ghz to 5.0 Ghz on air. Still have not seen one that had acceptable thermals when compared to other i7s or 4770k/4790k after an IHS TIM re-application.
