[Amazon] 3D printing your product while en route to speed up delivery

ahhming

Amazon is looking into 3D printing built right into its delivery vans.

Amazon has filed several patents that describe the 3D printing trucks as, "mobile manufacturing hubs" suggesting they could make potentially anything. The patent describes that these would not only speed up the delivery time but would also clear valuable storage space in Amazon's warehouses.

I think in the future we will all have 3d printers in our homes, and we buy blueprints instead of products and they just instantly print out

Wow...

Just, Damn...

GG Amazon, I want a 3D printed 3D Printer

RepRap 3D printers are like that. Majority of the parts are 3D printed so you can replicate it yourself after you are done.

Well , i dont think so. Because there will be "piratebay" for blueprints, as it is not that hard to create a blueprint of a product even when looking on it and disassembling it.

So no, many people would just lend to each other blueprints(yes even if the blueprints would be for ONE use only, like digitally signed or something.  it can all be easily captured/ pirated ).

Well if it gets the point where we can print pretty much anything, then there will be piracy anyway

Things will have to adapt (im talking like in 20 years, not like now)

These mobile hubs would need some serious vibration/movement isolation in them if they expect to print whilst on the move. My feeble mind can't really see it as being viable. If, however, they are talking more about a vehicle that will remain stationary whilst printing and then go on deliveries then it might be viable. I like the idea of Amazon offering 3DPaaS though as it will make it more readily accessible to the masses.
