just got something from nielsen?

hello, i checked the mail today and got some paperwork from nielsen. in it, it came with  a survey, a welcome thing that says what they want, and a who are we pamphlet, also $2.00 USD. is this place legit? if so, should i fill out the survey for them? im keeping the $2.00....lol. but do they pay you to do surveys or what?

It's legitimate, but that 2.00 is about all you'll see :P

It's often used as a sales and marketing trick. They'll probably go on to send you ad.s for things and because they gave you $2 your more likely to buy from them and also more likely to spend more. They probably wouldn't do it if it didn't work out cost-effective for them.

 

Having said that, they might just be trying to get you to respond and it might be the people commissioning the research who are footing the bill (and who will probably mailshot you with ad.s) but there's a good chance that if you respond (or even if you don't) that they'll follow up with ads.

 

Did it come in the form of a cheque?

 

Market research is generally done over the phone and people are asked to take part really for nothing (sometimes there might be a competition to entice people to take part).
