Is anyone going to get Orion mining ship?

I will. Maybe not right now, but once it is playable.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Only reason for me is the lti. You know that the ship will be attacked at some point, so insurance is a must. Just not sure if I want to mine.

Still new, but learning

Don't buy based on lti. Buy based on your intended profession(s) in game.

This ship is awesome but I'm holding off and getting it in game, after I buy the Carrack though.

Don't buy based on lti. Buy based on your intended profession(s) in game.

I want to eventually own manufacturies and/or upgrade repair. So it is a plausible ship to where I plan to be.

Reclaimer would have been better, but plan to hold out for the endeavor or crucible.

I'm actually interested in the whole mining procedure especially coming from EVE Online mining (playing solitaire while waiting for that freaking cycle to finish), but I'd rather get hired to fill in one of the roles, than to go out and buy a 260€ ship

LTI is probably a good idea, since you're not only threatened by prates or Vanduul but also by drifting and exploding asteroids, but then again I don't expect insurance to be expensive in PU and mining will definitely be one of the most profitable professions, so you'll have no issues paying for it.

I actually will have to disagree. The first point in business is overhead. To maximize profits, not having to pay for something considered a requirement is a major change. Even if the amount is considered negligible per run, we are speaking of a service that will be continuously renewed and paid for. In the long run, it is anything but negligible.

The second point is that I doubt hull insurance will be as cheap as people think. To magically replace a ship regardless of what happens sounds too good to be true, especially if you can just lose them as often as the simulator allows you. In the game itself, you would have to be far more sensible, and they should be more prudent about it. The truth of the matter is that they are making a viable persistent universe, thus the cost must be realistic, and the question of worth in which you consider doing without it should be a part of the mechanism in the game. It is a safety net, but should not be an infinite, and cheap, get out of jail free card.

I would honestly imagine that hull insurance, yearly (space time, not real time) would at least equate to 2.5 to 15% of the overall ship costs; otherwise, the insurance mechanism would be broken and far from realistic as the npc companies handling it would in fact be far in the red on the first day, and never recover.

If you had the lti, you would save on that cost and instead can put it towards escorts or even hull insurance, thus more overall profit and security. So if you are a real miner, the concept sale should be a very considerable option.

You misunderstand. I'm not saying it's negligible. I'm saying that you don't buy a ship JUST because it has LTI. It's an awesome addition if you need THAT ship.

@drewjn

To have LTI on a ship is always nice, especially on a mining ship, which is additionally threatened by rocks flying around, but IMHO this is just maximizing profit.

In CIGs FAQ they state that insurance will be a small cost relative to you income like in real life. Considering what I pay for my car insurance as opposed to it's price it'll be something like 1-2% per month. When the F7C is 144,000 UEC or 110$ I suspect the Orion to cost something like 500,000 UEC in PU so your insurance will be like 5-10k UEC/month. With the orion you'll probably loose more money taking a bathroom break than paying for insurance in-game

We can probably all agree that if you're a real miner your reply to this topic would be "bought it already" or "I wish I had the money for it" just like @CatCloud did.

I'm sorry if this reply sounds offending to you, this was not my intention.

Speaking of playboys, anyone jump for the 890?

I did! :D I'm thinking of melting her for the Orion, not sure yet. But I really like my party bus :/

I love the look of the ship, its very Alien-esque but the larger ships are going to be in game goals for me... that and I think prospecting/exploring is more up my alley than the actual mining :)

Also on the LTI front I think the cost is going to be pretty negligible its more the replacement time that is going to be the games way of penalising you.

I'm truly sorry but I just can't agree. It's super sexy. Love it!

Nah it's ugly but I'm glad that CIG didn't just go for the "let's just make an oversized 300 series yacht with lazers on" look.

I like the fact that no ship is the same look wise and the ships are realistically impractical.

Like the Reclaimer: "Alright, we got a nice and streamlined spacecraft! Now where do we put this GIANT arm?"

But the 300 series have beds...

Yea but in theory you'd spend more time in a 315p
