My PC Boots in <10 Seconds

Not a bad thing but...

its a 7200rpm drive

Windows 10 Btw

Is this supposed to happen?

That's... Awesome : o

My laptop with a HDD boots faster than my PC with an SSD though.. (about 10-15 seconds vs 15-20 seconds)

Because you guys have fast startup option checked (your comp doesnt actually off when you press shutdown, it goes into sleep mode)

That's very quick for a HDD. It may just be that it doesn't have to load much on startup.

Mine boots in around 10 seconds with an SSD, but my laptop boots in 3 with it's SSD. I guess I just have more stuff on my desktop boot.

I think its because of Windows 10, I know windows 8 is a shit-ton faster than 7, so yeah.

Mine is about a minute and a half, I'm on 7.

Hmm So Should i Shutdown, Then Cut the power the boot? Then Plug Back in then Boot?

Even Reboots are just quick

Nope. If I work on my laptop (IE take out battery etc.) it still boots very fast.

it stores your ram to the HDD, so taking out battery doesnt matter

Everyone goal should be 6sec from power button click sound to the desktop fully loaded, from a system shutdown.

Windows 8 and 10, fully support UEFI.
In a simplistic form, this is a bit how the BIOS works:
-> Hey GPU, let boot you so that an image on the screen be displayed and error can be shown. So I am just going to stand here, and wait. Oh and i need to scan you after to get your specs.
-> Ok that is done, already, now lets do a memory test.. ok soo.. 10KB... 20KB... so you say you have 32GB of RAM? That's nice.. 30KB... COFFEE BREAK! (ok ok this stage is no longer done, but it scans the RAM amount). Said it for laugh.
-> Then it scans SATA controller, and then HDDs/SSDs
-> Scans other stuff like from your system once after another.
-> Then it looks for teh boot sector, which luckily Windows puts at a specific spot where it starts looking for faster boot, and boots it.
-> When Windows starts.. guess what... well Windows (or what ever OS you are using), know NOTHING about your system, so it does a rescan.

UEFI:
-> Ok everyone! Listen up, give me all your specs I don't want to scan anything. Give me everything come one..
-> Ok let me do my thing, start the OS
-> Windows starts, Hey Windows1 UEFI here! Here are the specs of the system, k thx bye!

Basically UEFI is a lot smarter in about every single way, making it go and work faster. Having that OS communication is a big improvement.

Mixed with decently fast SSD, Windows 8 should boot, like I said, in 6 sec from the power click sound of the button to the desktop.

To enjoy UEFI in it's fullness you need:

  • GOP ready graphics card (see with your manufacture. New cards together are,. They support both BIOS and UEFI. Older card needs a firmware update. If you apply the firmware, it would only work on UEFI systems from now on, not on BIOS. Keep in mind, depending on the age of the graphics card, model and manufacture, the firmware chip might not be big enough or re-writable for the GOP ready firmware)

  • CSM disabled (CSM is teh compability mode of UEFI. It emulates the BIOS)
  • Fast Boot set in the UEFI
  • Decently fast SSD, as mentioned
  • Lastly: Windows 8 or 10. Keep in mind that if you have CSM enabled now, and you disable it (assuming you upgraded your graphics card firmware or already compatible) you can't switch Windows to support UEFI. The disk partitions needs to be different, and the partition table can't be MBR but rather GPT. All to say: format everything, delete all partitions if any, and re-install Windows making Windows setup re-create everything.

10 seconds with my Plextor M6S 128GB on Windows 7 with everything loaded that opens on bootup... Sometimes it doesn't finish the splash screen and goes straight to the desktop... Never see that disturbing "Welcome" screen. I welcome myself in. :P

No. I think you miss understood how it works.

With a UEFI powered system and compatible OS (and system specs), there is no "sleep" mode when the system is shutdown, nor RAM copy to disk (that is hibernation).

Windows 8 introduced a feature called Fast Startup which the OS partially hibernate itself at shutdown. It hibernates things that "never change", such as drivers, and the core of the OS, all for faster boot time from shutdown. That is why a reboot is a bit slower.

No it doesn't that is a myth. It doesn't degrade lifespan of system by shutting it down.

Power button... Why?

The moment you hit that power button, the system starts the boot process. NOT when the image shows.. that is like almost in the middle.

And certainly not from when Windows boot logo shows. We are measure the entire process.

Takes me 54.75 secs (shave off one or two for password entry) on an HDD running 7. I don't mind that it takes that long, it's not too long for me tho.... What really irritates me how unresponsive it was right after boot-up.

Mine takes about 17 seconds, with an SSD running Windows 7. My monitor doesn't boot very fast however, and i usually turn on my desktop first and then the monitor, so i usually am completely ready once my monitor is running.
