Best school/gaming laptop around 1200?

Coming from mac so know very little other than i want a laptop to play games on in college. I have 1200 dollars to spend. Games i expect to play are Skyrim, Fallout, Battlefield, modded Minecraft etc. Any thoughts, if you could give your reasons behind your choice that would be great.

I would get the new Broadwell Lenovo Y40. I'd suggest it over something like the Y50 for it's smaller size, thinner profile, and lighter weight. As well as better battery life when doing non-gaming tasks such as schoolwork or internet browsing.

I would hold out for a bit until the Broadwell Lenovo Y40 arrives (it may have already been released if you live somewhere outside the US). Resolution?

What setting for the games?

Honestly dont know about the resolution, 1080? as for resolution i would fine with medium, but would love to play on high or higher. Also want to mod some of the other games as well, don't know if that would come into consideration at all either. 

 

EDIT: also should add i'm not that worried about weight of it, as long as it isnt a brick, as i plan on carrying it in a backpack almost everywhere i go.

Yes there will be a new Y50 with better GPU and (more importantly) a much improved LCD screen

Would it be better to wait for the y50 to go on sale, or is the difference between the y50 and y40 not that big of a deal?
