Hello guys!

I'm thinking of making YouTube videos like Linus', MKBHD's or AndroidAuthority's. I'm well known IT specialist in Lithuania, however, Lithuania is too small for making YouTube videos about IT only for Lithuania. So, I'm going to make IT videos in English, not in Lithuanian. And I'm here to ask for your help.

I'm good at phones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches and etc, but when we're about cameras, microphones and similar stuff - I have no idea what to choose. I need a good, but cheap setup for YouTube videos. By saying "good" I don't mean super 4K 120FPS ultra cool quality setup with triple-stereo (wut?) microphones and flying mic stand. I mean "good enough" - Full HD camera with attachable microphone support, microphone stand and, of course, good enough mic. That would be fully enough for the beginning.

What could you offer? :)

Do you need a voice over mic or camera mic?

I don't know a whole lot about camera mics, but for desk mics:

The Audiotechnica AT2020 or Blue Yeit or maybe the Blue Snowball is good.

I think separate mic should be a good decision as cameras' microphones usually don't provide the best quaility :).

The mics I suggested are standalone/desk mics.

I would personally suggest the AT2020 and the Yeti the most, but these are also more expensive than the Snowball.

The Snowball is pretty decent too, for a lower price but it can do less (still a really good mic with good sound quality.)

I would personally suggest you looking into a pop filter for it too. You can later add an arm.

( just be sure not to smack your table when not using an arm, you will be able to hear that )

Yeah, those mics look great, but what stand would you offer? As I won't use those mics on desk, I'm going to set them over me or in front of me. Somewhere where camera won't show it.

Get a mic that plugs into the camera. A wired lav mic does an alright job at low cost. USB desk mics are okay, but you will have to sync to video later. You can get something like a Rode VideoMic/VideoMic Pro, and use those as a desk mic or boom mic. If the camera is close enough, you could even mount it on top of that.

The video part is the easiest bit - any camera from the last 3 years will do the job fine, heck an iPhone will do it. But Audio is the hard part that gets expensive.

Oh mics suggested by Minibois are USB? Didn't notice that :D. Yeah, I need a Mic that plugs into a camera. And a camera into you can plug a microphone. Rode videoMic looks fine. What about the camcorder?

I used a Canon EOS 550D with no problems. Depends on budget though, but any decent DSLR is great for it. The AT2020 comes in USB or XLR, you can convert the XLR to 3.5mm, but it can be expensive. No cheaper cameras have XLR inputs either.

Rode is a good brand, I used one of these for a while: http://www.videoguys.com.au/Shop/p/30214/vidpro-xm-l-lavalier-condensor-microphone-for-cameras-and-smartphones-vpxm-l.html

But upgraded to a Sennheiser E112 recently after I ran over the wired one with a chair.

Hmm, DSLR? What about camcorders like Sony's HDR-CX116E (but with 3.5mm audio input)?

@HighRabbit - will definitely work, but no personal experience. DSLR's have a lot of advantages - interchangeable lenses, can be rigged up like professional cameras etc., but for simple YouTube videos a camcorder is fine. Unsure on how expandable they are, though picture quality will be fine.

I'm upgrading to a BlackMagic URSA in April, as I've outgrown my DSLR as I do more and more experimental stuff

I'd spend less on the camera and allocate that towards lighting.

a properly lit and set up logitech c920 or newer can deliver great video

start this link @ 24 minutes in or watch the whole thing if you want to learn a lot about lighting
