This CAT-6 Ethernet cable cost up to $10,000 and made for Audiophile . Whut?

Most rich people I know actually are like that, and help a lot. IF you think rich people spending their extra money solves much, it doesn't. Money really only goes so far without infrastructure and thats the governments job to get in order, not the rich people to simply throw money at.

Gates for example, doesn't just spend money on malaria pills and walk away. He invests in communities. He builds out infrastructure to SUSTAIN the money he puts into the project in the first place. He's in essence doing what the government has failed to do. Sure, lots of money helps but money alone doesn't change much.

Still, people who buy crap like this cables instead of helping others make me sick.

The stars died for you to be here today.

The entire cable is actually silver, a far better conductor than copper if you can keep it from being oxidized. Still, it's like that damn coffee HDMI cable. It's useful for mission-critical, time-critical server communication, though Infiniband and Intel's new competing standard are probably better for it. The idea is to have fewer flipped bits during transport, but even so it's just... ugh...

Isn't silver only 5% more conductive anyway? This thing should be made out of graphene for that price.

While I don't disagree with you on the latter point, at room temperature the resistivity is 8% lower, but silver is far less prone to fraying and snapping at thinner forms and is also able to dissipate far more heat, meaning it can also take a greater current with less diameter without melting or taking damage assuming the rubber surrounding it isn't punctured (silver wire will oxidize quickly with a current running through it).

Additionally I believe as temperatures rise silver's resistivity doesn't climb at nearly the rate copper's does.

B-B-BUT SOCIALISMMMMMMM!

Gates is doing an admirable job of community building. I only hope some others of the rich elite will contribute to his efforts, or perhaps we can divert some of the foreign aid we're giving to developed nations (ahem ISRAEL ahem) and give it to places that actually need it such as those that Gates is trying to help with his money.

Hell, at that price its probably not far off from the actual cost of making the whole thing out of solid gold.

When in doubt, re-format.

meet audioquest diamond cat 6 ethernet cable  which cost $10,000 @ 12m. The cable is made from 100% silver .

This product is meant for those who are streaming from a server, PC or Media streamer to the router.

Feature:

Solid 100% Silver Conductors

Perfect-Surface Technology applied to extreme-purity silver provides unprecedented clarity and dynamic contrast. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by the grain boundaries which exist within any metal conductor, nearly eliminating harshness and greatly increasing clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers.

Carbon-Based 3-Layer Noise-Dissipation System

Noise, in the form of RF energy, is the mortal enemy of good sound. Our environment is more contaminated with RF than ever before due to the huge proliferation of RF radiating devices like computers and mobile phones. Traditionally, RF energy is routed to ground through the use of a 'shield" consisting of either a braided metal or foil. This 'draining' of RF to ground causes a modulation of the ground plane, which in turn causes a form of signal modulation. 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment’s ground reference requires AudioQuest's Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment’s ground plane.

Directionality

All audio cables are directional. The correct direction is determined by listening to every batch of metal conductors used in every AudioQuest audio cable. Arrows are clearly marked on the connectors to ensure superior sound quality. For best results have the arrow pointing in the direction of the flow of music. For example, NAS to Router, Router to Network Player.

Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation

Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then later released as distortion. Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation ensures critical signal-pair geometry while minimizing insulation-induced phase distortion.

Dielectric-Bias System

All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest’s DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.
