I have been wanting to get into RTS genera of games and I was wondering what you lovely folks a LTT would suggest? :) I have SC2 and thinking that. Played a bit here and there. But really want to learn about them. I am tired of Mobas and MMOs and want something more stimulating. :D Much love!

Well, Grey Goo just released and it's one of the more beginner friendly RTS. Not a ton of macro (as long as you don't play as the goo) and you can very easily do all the micro with short button combinations. Sounds ideal if you want to get started. There may be better older RTS games, but the genre has become so rare that I can't really think of one that's super beginner friendly.

Grey Goo just launched, might want to give that a try.

Totalbiscuit has a "WTF Is" video review of it. The gist of the review:

"A slower paced, accessible RTS in the classic 90s style. An all-round polished experience by veterans of the genre."

I watched it and that is what I was thinking. And for turn based would Sid Meyer's be a good choice?

I don't know what you'd call easy, but I think you should try the old but ported and restored game Warzone 2100.

Sadly, their site's down.

I don't mean easy persay just something to learn the basics.

I haven't played it but I have a friend who is the biggest Civ fan ever (1000+ hours in every game). And he says that Civ 5 is better than beyond earth and it is basically remake of alpha centauri.

First: wow that many freaking hours?

Second: Oh ok! :) Sweet!

Only games I have even hours close to that is LoL with 2200 hours and WoW with...well about two years worth of time, so 17520+ hours. In my defense I have played since it came out.

There's not really one game that's noob focused, besides if there was you wouldn't want it as you wouldn't be a noob forever. That being said there are a good number of excellent RTS games out there.

Command and Conquer 3

Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath

Command and Conquer Red Alert 3

Supreme Commander

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance (I suggest getting only this one if SupCom appeals to you because it's more of the same of the first game but with more content, I also suggest going to http://www.faforever.com/and joining as it has a lobby browser in addition to map and mod downloads.

Planetary Annihilation

Star Drive (4x RTS)

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War(w/ various expansions)

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II

Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Rising

Warhammer 40,000 Retribution

Company of Heroes( I would suggest picking up the Blitzkrieg mod for this as it gives the game a more realistic feel with loads of new units, maps and gameplay tweaks. http://www.moddb.com/mods/blitzkrieg)

Grey Goo just came out and I've played a bit, I like it but I've not played it enough to give it a solid recommendation. TB did a video of it and it was linked earlier on this thread so I suggest giving it a look.

Dawn of War 2 is probably the most noob friendly. Hardly any micro at all.

It's not a very good game though. I recommend stepping up to the vastly superior predecessor and its expansions (especially Dark Crusade)

Rise of Nations and Red Alert are also good for a giggle.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
