I was playing far cry 4 and my zotac 970 with no overclock was up to a max of 81 degrees is this normal? Is there an issue if I up the fans up to 100% cause when i do this it reaches a max of 60 degrees... Should I change the thermal paste? Idk help please

ZOtac is a cheap brand, the cooler is definitelly not the greatest. Yes change the thermal paste ASAP and maybe you can get some new cooler somewhere xD

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

If that's the case then just create a custom fan curve.

^ This. Seems like the stock fan curve is making the fans run too slow to keep temps that low. Just use EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner to create a custom fan curve.

It's not any worse then overhyped Strix

Gigabyte or MSI plz. I got a TwinFrozr 5 MSI gaming 970 as it was cheaper than the GB one when i was buying it.

Doesn't matter really. The Gigabyte might perform a bit better with the three fans but there won't be a huge temperature difference between stock TF5 and Zotac with a custom fan curve due to the nature of the Maxwell chip (think about it, it's almost identical heat output to the R7 265). Reviewers also agree that the Zotac's stock fan curve is not great. http://www.techporn.ph/zotac-geforce-gtx-970-review/

As have the upper comments said, check the fan curve to see if that helps, if it doesnt then it would be good to change the thermal paste. or maybe check if your card is getting enough cool air.

Ummm, but the overclocking capabilities on this chip are great! i can run mine stable up to +250MHz on chipset and 285MHz on memory with a 110% power limit and its stable,(i run +175/+200/105%) to increase life span and reduce heat, it gets quite hot when i ramp it up to the max even with the MSI cooler on it (i get 70ºC on my current settings, it went up to 83ºC on max overclock.)

Overclockability with non-cherry-picked cards (only one of which being the Gigabyte G1) is based on lottery and should not be used to compare how good two different cards are. Just because your MSI 970 did well in the lottery does not mean that some MSI 970s will do worse, or that some Zotacs will do better. There is a possibility that somebody with the same card as you may not even be able to hit +100MHz with 110% power limit while someone with a Zotac 970 might be able to get the same overclocks as you but without increasing power limit at all.

Do you think having the fans running at 90 to 100 percent will afect the life of the card? or could they stop working because of this? this is my first gaming pc, i only had laptops and such before :)

I will try creating a fan curve but whenever I do this I feel MSI afterburner doesn't save my settings, Idk I'm at work, I'll check when I get home.

I'm curious. What is the ambient temperature of your room?

That's unfortunate man, my 970 runs at about 54-60c under load with an over clock at 44% fan speed. Maybe you got a hot card, I don't know anything about Zotac but I would search around online and see if its normal and if not RMA it.

From the tests I've seen, that's Zotac's fault. They are one of the cheapest cards for a reason....

It'll save your fan curve along with your profile...

I have one so that my card will never reach 70 degrees celcius :B

Edit: just remember to click that gear icon at the fan speed slider

Sounds like your card got a subpar TIM application from the factory, replacing it should fix your issue.

The review that Aniallation posted also states that the Zotac's fan curve out of the factory isn't exceptional.

The temperature doesn't matter.

As long as it's not 95+, don't worry about it.

^This. Reference cards are defaulted to 80 degrees max temp.
