GTX 960 vs R9 280

Fuck i should have bought a 280 instead of this shitty 270x i have.

Sorry dude. Also, the 270 and 270x are the same card, just the 270x is factory overclocked (or well, the 270 is factory underclocked with a less beefy VRM design, but the VRM design is still fully capable). I have my 270 running at 1050 MHz, which is faster than 270x speeds. There's really no reason to get the 270x. Just a heads up if you ever make future recommendations.

I would, but the slider won't go up that high. Even with Asus's overdrive utility (which I no longer use), I could only get up to 1100 MHz (which as the max for that utility), which was also completely stable. I'm sure with the right tool I could get close to matching (or beating) that.

The 270x has an extra 6 pin ( or is it 8 pin) connector so it ocs slightly better than the 270 since it has better power delivery.

 

It was only 20 bucks more than the 270.

It was a shitty purchase but i needed a card fast.

 

I sold my old gpu and had to use my laptop only for two months which was hell.

 

I game at 1440x900 so its mostly fine.

No, in every single game in that article the 960 performed worse. I literally picked a random one. You provided a Tom's Hardware benchmark, I personally don't count them as being "reputable" I'd trust guru3d over them any day of the week.

280 is a 7950, look where that places the 960.

Huh, would you look at that. Not to mention this is a 1080p mid-range card, nothing more. It is not meant to max out games or play at 1440p+. It works for what it meant to do, and does it well.

It either uses 2 6-pin power connectors or 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin connector. Those are your standard power connectors that you plug into your GPU. If you tell us the exact model of your power supply we can tell you whether it has all the required cables. And even if it doesn't, the GPU usually comes with molex to 6-pin adapters.

I'll be getting a Corsair VS550 (85% efficiency), it has 2x PCIe.

So I guess I'll be okay?

I think his point is that Nvidia clearly know what they are doing, and are specialists (along with AMD) and thus might just know a teeny bit more about how the architecture actually works, how to optimise and utilize efficiently .... more than any of us possibly??????

The 280 handily beats the 960. The 960 is a bad joke, a total scam by Nvidia who put out a completely inferior product knowing some people who don't know anything about graphics cards would buy whatever is in their price range and has pretty packaging when they go to best buy or wherever.

Its too early in the morning for total accuracy! I hear you, I think, unless Nvidia do something with second itterations, this card will die quite quickly. The whole idea at competing at a price point is to be slightly ahead in cost or power, and this card seems to be behind on both .... to older architecture ...  strange, unless there is something all the benchmarks are missing

I think getting a HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT bus and 2 GB VRAM in 2015 is shotting youself in the foot.

 

With a rocket launcher...

Even my 270x has a 256 bit bus.

Thats the bit I dont get ... unless they have figured out a way to untilise the VRAM better and not have the bus throttle it. The benchmarks would  suggest they havent found this magic solution .... so why did they do this?

I captured 60 fps crysis 3 footage with predator.

 

That should answer your question.

 

Its like 2-3fps.

 

Do I need an msi gpu or no
